“Adventures of Robinhood”(1965) was directed by B J Patel for People Pictures, Bombay. This movie had Prashant, Praveen Chaudhary, Neelofar, Bhagwan, Shyam Kumar, Vish Mehra, Vishwas Kunte, Gul Hamid, Hari Shukla, Shri Bhagwan, Saudagar singh, Dhanraj, Gopal, Jeewankala, Pal Sharma etc in it.

“Pooja Ke Phool”(1964) was a remake of Tamil movie “Kumudam”(1962) which was simultaneously made into Telugu as “Manchi Manasulu” as well. On the insistence of AV Meiyyapan, the owner of AVM Productions, the producer of thes movies, tunes of the songs of the Tamil version were reused in Hindi songs as well.

On Children’s Day (14th November) we had introduced the children’s film, Dak Ghar (1965) to the blog. This film, produced by the Children’s Film Society of India, is based on the Bengali play of the same name, written by Rabindranath Tagore in 1912.

Today is the 14th of November, celebrated in India as Children’s Day.
This is a day that is remembered to mark the birthday of India’s first Prime Minister and one of India’s Founding Fathers, Jawaharlal Nehru. Since he was considered to be particularly close to children, the day is celebrated as Children’s Day.

Though I was born in a non Hindi speaking family and grew up in a Non Hindi speaking region, I was enrolled into a Hindi medium High school by my idealist father. There were many students from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in the school whose parents were settled in Mumbai (then Bombay). Naturally, we spoke to each other in Hindi. But when they would talk among themselves, they would speak in languages that sounded somewhat different from Hindi. It was at that time that I came to know about the many dialects of Hindi such as Bhojpuri and Awadhi, Brijbhaasha, Maithili Magadhi etc.

There is one genre of songs that always has me hooked to it. And that is the qawwali.
I don’t know what exactly it is about the qawwali that has me so – I don’t think it is just one thing. Not just the music, or the lyrics, or the synchronized “clapping”, or the setting – I think it is all of these. The entire package, that fascinates me.
