I have noticed that Hindi movies rarely show actors keeping pets like say cats and dogs. When I was growing up in 1960s and 1970s, most Indian families regarded keeping pets a luxury that average families could ill afford. Then there were people who were superstitious and they thought that a cat especially black one crossing their path was inauspicious. Only villains would keep pets in Hindi movies.

The movie “Barsaat Ki Raat” (1960) was a movie that was a qawwali bonanza as this movie consisted mainly of one awesome qawwali following other. After the huge success of this movie, other movie makers tried to ape its success formula by coming with movies with similar theme. One of these movies was called “Qawwali Ki Raat” (1964) thus leaving no ambiguity about the fact that it was inspired from “Barsaat Ki Raat” (1960).

Most Hindi movie songs are traditional songs in the sense that they deal with certain human sentiments (love, happiness, sadness etc). Then there are “timepass” songs that are there for some light hearted fun.
