Wishing everyone of us a Very Happy Republic Day.
गणतंत्र दिवस की शुभकामनायें
This was my post last year for the occasion. & in that post I had lamented about ignorance among many citizens regarding the significance of 26th January and why it was chosen to be Republic Day.
“The 308 members of the Constituent Assembly, of thenewly Independent India, signed hand-written copies (in Hindi and English) of the Constitution of India on 24th January 1950 after much deliberation and some changes. The Constitution was adopted and came into effect throughout the country from 26th January 1950. Today’s song is from the movie ‘Nargis-1993’. This movie seems to be an obscure or un-released movie of its time. I was not aware of this movie or its songs. But I got to listen to today’s song on ‘Vividh Bharati’ around two years back and since then I was longing to share it on the blog. When I listened to this song first I was not aware of the name of the movie it was from. It was only later when I looked for the details of its movie and other songs that I became aware of the name of the movie.

At the outset a Happy Deepawali to all the followers of this blog. Today is Bali Pratipada and the holiday fervour/ fever continues. There are still some friends & relatives to be wished, gifts & sweets to be exchanged. Then there will be Bhai Dooj or Bhau Beej (as it is called in Western India) on the 27th. That will be the last of celebrations (I think) for the Diwali holidays.

The years 1980s and 90s were the golden period of TV serials which used to be telecast on National Doordarshan Channel. The TV Serials of these period might have been lacking in technical specs as compared with that of the current TV serials. But what made these Doordarshan serials very popular was that they were mostly based on down to earth story lines, the good directions, the good performances of the lead and supporting actors and above all the absence of the present TRP dominated TV industry. These factors have made the TV serials of yore unforgettable for most of the the viewers including me. And the proof is that most of these serials had repeat telecasts on a number of times keeping in view the response from the viewers.
