We had this post last year on the same date by Avinashji where he has written about the background of the movie “Woh Main Nahi”(1974). He has listed all the famous songs and movies of Navin Nischol. Most of the songs which I like are in that list.

Today’s song is from the film Jungle mein Mangal-47. This was a stunt C grade movie made by Harishchandra Pictures. The film was directed by Baburao Badodekar- a name I heard for the first time. No wonder, because in those days, when stunt films were made by the dozen an year and at a cost of Rs. 30 to 40 thousand, getting quality directors for them was not possible. A seasoned Cameraman or an actor from even stage drama used to double as director of such movies for about 1 or 2 thousand rupees per film. The song writers used to get 10 to 15 rupees per song and unknown composers used to get lured by the prospect of seeing his name in the booklet, name in the film credits and about 2 or 3 thousand rupees per film.

Missing Films of 1960s – 96
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

In this series, the film being introduced today is of certain significance in the history of Hindi film music. The film is ‘Ziarat Gahe Hind’. Translating this phrase – it means – “हिन्दोस्तान के दर्शनीय इस्लामिक धार्मिक स्थल” – or important pilgrimage centers of Islamic religion in India. ‘Ziarat’ means to see, to visit – “दर्शन करना”; ‘gahe’ means a dargah (“दरगाह”), a place of religious pilgrimage; and ‘Hind’ refers to “हिन्दोस्तान”, India. In a manner of speaking this film is the Islamic equivalent of films like ‘Sampooran Teerht Yatra’ which presents the travelogue of centers of Hindu pilgrimages.

Hullo to all in Atuldom

So, there is this thing called the 10-year challenge going-on on Facebook, at least I saw a few of my friend’s post “Then and Now” pictures. Atulji also has started something similar on the blog with this post “Inteha Ho Gai Intezaar Ki“. I found this more inspiring to participate in and I was thinking of how my association with this blog began exactly 10 years ago when my daughter stumbled on to this blog (I know I have mentioned this a number of times, sorry for repeating). Then she saw that Atulji is kind enough to post songs requested by readers (followers) – there is a dedicated ‘farmaishes’ page on the blog.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2009-19) – Song No. 18
————————————————

‘Pyaasa Saawan’ (1981) is one of the lovely reminders of those movie watching days, when we were (for me) watching movies either with elders in the family or with siblings and cousins or sometimes together with all. Those were the days when movie watching was the biggest attraction after ‘print media’, ‘radio’, and ‘cricket’ (for me).

To be a ‘fan’ of ‘Rajesh Khanna’ was still a year or two in the future to happen.

Today’s song is from the film Jungle ki Duniya-59. From the title itself, it is clear that it was one of those C grade films, in which stories take place on the background of Jungle and generally centre around a lost child who is inheritor of a big estate.
