#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #

Today 24th October 2025 is the fourteenth remembrance day of the legendary singer Manna Dey ( Real name Prabodh Chandra Dey). He was born on 01.05.1919 and he passed away on 24.10.2013.

Music lovers here are already aware about him and much has already been written about his greatness and versatility as a singer, so I am not going to repeat it all here again. But I would definitely like to mention here that I am a big fan of his singing and I have always enjoyed and cherished listening to the songs sung by Manna Dey, whichever genre they are from – classical, semi-classical, sugam sangeet or qawwaalees etc. He has also sung many songs which fall under the category of philosophical songs and ‘songs with a message’.

Today I am presenting one such rare song here. This song is a rare song because it is from an un-released movie of the seventies. I don’t know how many of us have listened to this song. I came across this song around two-three years back and I had mentioned this while presenting another song from this same un-released movie here on the blog earlier.

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Shree Ram Bharat Milan-1965’. This mythological movie was directed by Manibhai Vyas for R.M. Art Productions, Bombay. It was produced by Ratan and Mohan and presented by Pt Madhur and S.P. Mangal.

The cast of this movie had Prithviraj, Mahipal, Nirupa Roy, Anita Guha, Sulochana, Rajkumar, Saraswati, Balakram, Bhuvna, B.M. Vyas, Sunanda, Niranjan Sharma, Padma Rani, Arvind, Vanmala, Joirabhai, Anand Tiwari, C.N. Kapoor, Shekhar Purohit and others. The names of Madhumati, Sheela R., Aruna, and Bela Bose are included in the titles as ‘dancers’. (The video of the movie available on internet is not clear). Story of this movie was written by Pt Narottam Vyas, and screenplay was written by Vishwanath Pande. Pt Madhur and C.K. Mast wrote the dialogues of this movie. Editing of this movie was done by P.S. ‘Prem Geet’ (1981) was produced by Lakhan Sinha and Pawan Kumar under the banner of Ramayana Chitra. The film was directed by Sudesh Issar, father of Puneet Issar. Raj Babbar and Anita Raj were in the lead roles with the supporting cast of Rajni Sharma, Sowcar Janaki, Madan Puri, Shashi Ranjan, Sajjan, Raj Kishore, Viju Khote, Vandana Rane, Yasmeen etc. It was the first released film of Anita Raj and also of Jagjit Singh as the music director.

Producers Lakhan Sinha and Pawan Kumar are elder brother and Secretary, respectively of Shatrughan Sinha. Ramayana Chitra is the home film production banner of Shatrughan Sinha. Director, Sudesh Issar started his filmy career as assistant director to Raj Khosla. He assisted him in ‘Ek Musaafir Ek Haseena’ (1962), ‘Wo Kaun Thhee’ (1964), ‘ Mera Saaya’ (1966), ‘Anita’ (1967), ‘Chiraag’ (1969) and ‘Mera Gaon Mera Desh’ (1971). ‘Sauda’ (1974) was Sudesh Issar first film as an independent director.

In this post I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Mahimaa Shri Raam Ki-1981’ alias ‘Sati Bindumati’.This devotional movie was directed by Satish Kumar for V.B. Enterprises, Madras, and Bombay. R.B. Rahi was the producer of this movie. The cast of this movie included Jayshree Gadkar, Abhi Bhattacharya, Mahipal, Manhar Desai, B.M. Vyas, Mohan Choti, Gopi Krishna, Padma Khanna, S.N. Tripathi, Uma Dhawan, Jayshree T., Meena T., Hercules, Jeevan and others. Kanan Kaushal had a special appearance in this movie. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 09.01.1981 (Bombay Centre) and it was again passed the Madras Centre of Censor Board on 08.04.1981 (as per information given in Geet Kosh Vol-VI). This movie has five songs written by B.D. Mishra and music for this movie is composed by Govind-Naresh. The singers for this movie are Mohd Rafi, Govind Prasad, Asha Bhonsle, Usha Mangeshkar, Dilraj Kaur, and Mahendra Kapoor.
