I was aware of “Lalkaar” (1956) and “Lalkaar”(1972). It turns out that a movie with the same title was released in 1944 as well.
“Lalkaar” (1944) was produced and directed by Jayant Desai. The movie had Ramola, Ishwarlal, Mubarak, Maya Bannerji etc in it.

When I discussed the previous Zohrabai ambalewaali song, i mentioned that I was struggling to get Zohrabai Ambalewaali songs to discuss. The next thing I knew was that Zohrabai Ambalewaali songs poured in my inbox. 🙂 So one can say that Zohrabai Ambalewaali song contributions “fund” has met with overwhelming response. 🙂 Now I have enough Zohrabai Ambalewaali songs to see her through to her century mark and beyond.

In 1952, this voice came to the fore with the rousing proclamation of “Vande Maatram, Vande Maatram”. This song, which comes from the seminal creation of Bankim Chandra Chatterji – ‘Anand Matth’, was first published in 1882. After the passing of the first war of independence in 1857, the undercurrents of anger and resistance were simmering across the country. But the voices of cohesive and decisive action were still to come a couple of decades later. With the publication of ‘Anand Mathh’, the nation and its people got a slogan that said everything in just two simple words. After this song came on the lips of the common man, over the years many musical interpretations have been pronounced. Most of them are based in classical music, and the most popular versions are gradual and lingering, in the mode of a prayer to the motherland.
