This song from “Neelkamal” (1968) has become immortal as the greatest “Bidaai” song of all time that Bollywood has come up with. And as happened with most iconic songs of Bollywood, this song too is a creation of Ravi, the underestimated music director who in fact went to have one of the longest and most successful career as a music director.

“Aashirwaad” (1968) was an offbeat movie. And obviously, Indian movie goers were not ready for such movies. So there is little surprise then that the mention of this movie would draw a blank from many Bollywood movie buffs.

I am often amazed at the high quality output of Rafi towards the 1950s and 1960s when he was at the peak of his career. The 1960s were especially remarkable. In this decade, he sang outstanding songs, not just for big stars, but also for lesser known actors.

“Sangharsh” was a movie as “recent” as 1968 when Rajesh Khanna had already taken over Bollywood as a superstar. So I am surprised that oldtimers like Dilip Kumar and Vyjyanti Mala were still playing lead roles in 1968.

I have posted quite a few “chitthi” songs from 1970,1980 and 1990s. It is not that such songs were not there in the earlier decades. Not at all. There were such “Chitthi” songs in 1960s too.

There are a few lovely songs eulogising Maa (mother) in Bollywood movies. The most memorable of these songs were composed in 1960s.
