“Naagin”(1976) was released with some great pre release publicity. It was described as a big multistarrer movie, if I recall correctly. Personally I was rather underwhelmed by such publicity. The movie had Sunil Dutt, Feroz Khan, Vinod Mehra, Kabir Bedi, Anil Dhawan, Sanjay Khan, Rekha, Reena Roy, Yogita Bali, Prema Narayan, Neelam Mehra, Heena Kausar, Aruna Irani,Jeetendra, Mumtaz, Premnath, Ranjeet, Roopesh Kumar, Komilla Wirk, Jagdeep, Gulshan Arora, Sulochana, Aarti, Anita Guha, Maruti, Tuntun, Satish Arora, Rajan Sethi, Master Bittu etc in it. To my mind, no movie of those days could be described as a multistatter if it did not have at least two actors out of Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna and Dharmendra, and none of them were there in this movie.

The movie had Dev Anand, Hema Malini, Prem Nath, Ajit, Durga Khote, Paintal, Gautam Sarin, Jankidas, Ranjan, Bharat Kapoor, Jagdish Raj, Hercules, Shamim Banu, Uma Dhawan, Rajni Bala, Sudhir, Jazebel, Sharat Saxena, Pardesi, Chandu, Manik Dutt, Manmauji, Prem Sagar and Dharamveer. The off-screen romance between Dev Anand and Suraiyya was well known. On-screen, if there was any song which symbolized the relationship it was this romantic duet from Vidya 1948 sung by Mukesh and Suraiyya.
Hold on. Mukesh giving playback for Dev Anand?. Well, yes, there were 3 occasions in which this rarity occurred. A solo and a duet in Vidya and a duet in Shair with Lata under Ghulam Mohammed.

So we have now reached 11200 songs on the blog. I remember there were various things happening, same time last year. We were on our road to 10000. We were having a series running which was introducing each and every contributor of the blog. The most silent character in our Atuldom (as far as sending contributions to the blog in the form of posts or write-ups) has reached 900. Wow!

Glancing through the comments from the past couple of days, I got a shock to see the RIP comment posted by Avinash ji. Goodness no, but Krishna Kalle is no more. I quickly searched for more news online, but am dismayed to see almost nil coverage of this news. A couple of news sites carried brief items of just a small paragraph or two. She passed away last Sunday, 15th March, after a brief but serious illness. The last rites were performed on Monday. She was 74.
