Some loris have also been sung by men, generally widowers, and these tend to be melancholy ones, but there are some exceptions. In Carnatic music, the raga Neelambari is the one used to induce sleep and most lullabies in the South are sung in this raga.

“Baalika Badhu” (Child bride) as the name suggests was a movie made on the theme of child marriage. In this movie, Sachin and Rajni Sharma play the children who get married to each other. When “Fakeera” (1976) was released, I pooh poohed it as a B grade movie. Even the reviews of this movie in magazines seemed to bear me out that the movie was no great shakes.

“Bairaag” (1976) is one of the last movies where Dilip Kumar is seen as a hero. And as happened with heroes well past the conventionally accepted age of playing Bollywood heroes, he is paired up with Leena Chandawarkar here, who was nearly half the age of Dilip Saab at that time.

This song was a popular song during its time. When I listened to it, I thought that R D Burman was the music director. It was only much later that I realised that the music director was not R D Burman , but a newcomer called Bappi Lahiri. Yes, Bappi Lahiri was creating great impression in the minds of music lovers. He had created some nice music in “Zakhmee” (1975), his debut music and then in “Chalte Chalte” (1976).
