Abke sajan saawan mein

“Chupke Chupke” was a lighthearted movie where some leading names in Bollywood were assembled and the result was a nice comedy. In a way, this movie was a forerunner of later day movies viz “Golmaal”, “Jaane bhi do yaaron” etc.

“Chitthi” songs, viz songs where one feels nostalgic about one’s loved ones and waits for “chitthi” from them makes for some of the best and most memorable songs. I have posted one such song from 1970s viz. ” daakiya daak laaya”.
The song “daakiya daak laaya” from a 1977 movie called “Palkon ki chhaon mein” was quite a popular “chitthi” song, before it was upstaged by another song of this genre. This song ” chitthi aayi hai watan se chitthi aayi hai” from “Naam” (1986) touched the heart strings of the listeners as no chitthi song had ever done before.

Jaane chaman jaane bahaar

I had listened to this song quite often in Radio Ceylon “aaphi ke geet” programme , which was a farmaishi programme catering to listeners from Jhumri Tilaiyya and elsewhere. But I do not think this song became particularly popular in Binaca geetmala or with those plying records on loudspeakers during those days of 1974. In fact, I was not even aware which movie this song was from.

“Do Raaste” was one of the earlier hits of Rajesh Khanna. This movie, like most hits of Rajesh Khanna, had many hit songs. In fact, I am coming round to the view that many movies of those days became hits thanks to their music and the credit went to the Hero, often undeservedly. There are people who think that Rajendra Kumar movies were hits thanks to the music of his movies, and not because of his tragic roles.

“Shraafat” must be one of the first movies where Dharmendra and Hema Malini were paired together, and they soon became the number one pair of Bollywood movies.

One associates sensuous and seductive songs with Asha Bhonsle rather than Lata. So it comes as a surprise to note that even Lata has sung such songs and has sung them just as well as Asha.

After the mega success of Sholay, another film maker made another movie with its title beginning with “Sh..” and hyped it so much so that everyone thought that this movie was going to be the next Sholay. In addition to top Indian stars, it also boasted some international stars. But when the dust settled down, the movie had crashed with no trace of it remaining anywhere.

“Ye Gulistaan hamara” was a Dev Anand movie that few people remember today. The movie itself sank without a trace.
Ironically, this movie had a better storyline than some of the rubbish Dev Anand movies that met with better fate at the box office. May be the movie deserved it because Dev Anand in any case would not bother much about authenticity of picturisation in his movies.

Bahaaron ne mera chaman loot kar

I have already posted one memorable nostalgic song from this movie sung by Mukesh and picturised on Dharmendra.
This movie was in fact full of memorable songs. Quite a few of such songs were sung by Mukesh for Dharmendra. Here is another such memorable song.

“Karz” of 1980 was a musical blockbuster. Though many fans were not aware about it, but most tunes in that movie were lifted from western tunes, including the most popular ” meri umar ke nauzawaanon”. Of course, all that plagiarism did not affect the popularity of Bollywood songs of this , or any other movies, in any ways.
