One of the earliest articles in the blog that gave me immense satisfaction was the article on the song “Din hai suhaana aaj pehli taareekh hai”. This song, that brings back nostalgia big time for people growing up in 1960s and 1970s is from “Pahli Taareekh” (1954) and it was played on Radio Ceylon (later SLBC) on the first day of every month. Listening to this song on the first day of every month in the “puraani filmon ke geet” programme was a divine experience. One needed to live in that era to savour it. Those who could never savour it because they were not born then, I can only say-tough luck. Better luck next time. 🙂

It is somewhat like the train approaching a station. I am very sure, all of us have had this experience, whenever we have gone to receive some body at the railway station, or gone to the station to start a train journey. There is a whole variety of actions and emotions we associate with this event. These days, the availability of mobile phones has made communicating much easier. But earlier it used to be different. One would start calling up the railway enquiry at least one hour before the expected arrival time. Connecting with that number and getting information used to be a trying task in itself. Then based on the information so received, one would plan to go to the station, depending on the distance. And we are all familiar with the pedantic and meticulous souls who would start this enquiry many hours in advance.

Encouraged by its success, the same team, viz Ramesh Behl (producer) and Narendra Bedi(director) came up with another movie with a similar title, viz. “Dil Deewaana” (1974). The movie had the same lead pair, viz. Randhir Kapoor and Jaya Bhaduri. So continuing in my line of light hearted romantic songs here is one more. Now this one is from the 1978 Dharmendra- Hema Malini – Prem Chopra starrer “Azaad”. This song is in the voice of Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. It has music by RDB and the songs were written by Anand Bakshi. That means the songs from this movie were all great on the ear. What more does one expect when AB and RDB collaborate?
