We resume our journey of Kavi Pradeep songs after a gap of more than a month. I had planned to post Kavi Pradeep songs regularly because we have yet to cover many of the songs that he wrote for Hindi films.
Today’s song is from the movie ‘Basant Panchami-1956’. This movie has ten songs written by Kavi Pradeep. Chitragupt was the music director. Asha Bhonsle and Kavi Pradeep were the playback singers. The movie had two duets and eight solo songs by Asha Bhonsle. So far, five songs from this movie have already been posted on this blog. Today we are going to listen to the sixth song from this movie.
‘Basant Panchami-1956’ was directed by Jayant Desai for ‘Hemlata Pictures’. Jayant Desai was also the producer of this movie and it was passed by Censor Board on 24.07.1956. ‘Basant Panchami-1956’ was a devotional or ‘bhakti pradhaan’ movie. The cast of this movie included Nirupa Roy, Anant Kumar, Jeevan, S.N. Tripathi, Radhakishan, Yashodhara Katju, Niranjan Sharma, Kumkum, Babu Raje, Charubala, Anand Joshi, Sukumar, Dubey, Uma Dutt, Naazi, Shri Bhagwan and others.

Today’s song is from yet another Kalpanik (Imaginary) film -Son of Sindbad-1958.
Produced by Balwant Bhatt and Ram Kamlani, the film was directed by the younger brother of Balwant Bhatt – Nanabhai Bhatt. In Gujarat, ‘Nana’ means younger. His real name was Yashwant and his nickname was ‘Batuk’ (means smaller).
Director Nanabhai Bhatt ( 12-6-1915 to 24-4-1999). He was a director in many films.He directed mostly Mythological and stunt films only. Nanabhai was born as Yashwant ( pet name – Batuk) at Porbandar. Since he was the younger one he was called Nanabhai ( opposite to Motabhai-elder brother). This name continued till the end. His father was a doctor. After matriculation, he went to Mumbai in 1934, where his elder brother Balwant Bhatt was working. Balwant started with Imperial,shifted to Sagar and now was with Prakash pictures of Vijay and Shankar Bhatt. He got Nanabhai a job as Sound Recordist.Soon he graduated as Production Executive. He also wrote several screenplays.

Today’s song is from a stunt film- Chaalbaaz-1958.
The film was produced by Balwant Bhatt and Ram Kamlani. It was directed by the veteran of such films- Nanabhai Bhatt. Music was by the melody maker- Chitragupta. 5 singers sang 7 songs, written by Anjum Jaipuri (2) and Prem Dhavan (5). The cast included Nirupa Roy, Jairaj,Nishi, K.N.Singh, Shammi, Cuckoo, David, Master Bhagwan, Moti (Horse) and Tiger (Dog) etc etc.
The title Chaalbaaz seems to be quite a favourite with filmmakers. Films with the same title were made in 1958, 69, 80, 89 and 2003. In addition there was Chaalbaaz Leader-70 and Chaalbaaz Haseena-2002 also.

Today’s song is from a much less known film Balyogi Upmanyu-1958.
The film was made by Prakash Pictures, once a famous film company, which made hit films on Mythology, especially Bharat Milap-1942 and Ram Rajya-1943.
The film was produced by Shankar Bhatt and directed by Harsukh Bhatt. Music was by the Master of melody – Chitragupta. Lyricist was Bharat Vyas. The cast of the film was Sulochana (Latkar), Lalita Pawar, Jeevan, Madan Puri, Vinod Kumar (Vinod Mehra in the main child role), Ajeet and many others.

In this article, I am presenting a song, ‘suno aye duniyawaalon ek naya paighaam laaya hoon’ from an incomplete film, ‘Naya Mandir’ (1961). It was directed by Kishore Sahu. It had Manoj Kumar, Mala Sinha and Mehmood in main roles. I came to know of this song on the audio album of ‘Film Hi Film’ (1983). Unfortunately, this song seems to have been deleted from the VCD of the film available on one of the video sharing platforms. Since video clip of the song is available in continuation of the scene from ‘Film Hi Film. (1983), it can be construed that the song was included in the film.
Shahab Ahmed, the producer of ‘Film Hi Film’ (1983) had earlier produced ‘Cinema Cinema’ (1979). During his visit to Bombay Film Laboratory, he was astonished to see cans of more than 2000 unfinished films lying in the laboratory. Shahab Ahmed thought that a lot of efforts had gone into making these films which unfortunately remained incomplete for various reasons. So, he came with the idea of incorporating scenes and songs from a few select incomplete films to make a full-length feature film [Source: ‘…and Pran’ (2005) by Bunny Rueben].

‘Sindbaad The Sailor” (1952), also known as ‘Sindbaad Jahaazi’ was produced by Balwant Bhatt under the banner of Deepak Pictures and was directed by his brother, Nanabhai Bhatt. The cast included Naseem Bano, Ranjan, Nirupa Roy, Pran, Jayant, Bhagwan, Yashodhara Katju, Samson, etc. In some places including the poster of the film, Sindbaad is written/printed as ‘Sinbad’. The Arabic name is ‘Sindibaadu’. So, using the title of the film as ‘Sindbaad The Sailor/Sindbaad Jahaazi’ seems appropriate.
