Today’s song is from film Chaalbaaz (1958).
What an year 1958 was, in terms of musical films ! Most Music Directors had offered their best songs in this year. The popular playback singers were very busy and the musicians and the arrangers had a field day, running from this studio to that studio for rehearsals and recordings. The films that came in 1958 were full of wonderful music and one can not make choices in those films. Not only that but there was a variety of different Genres of films on offer. Historical, Costume, stunt,Mythologicals, social, Comedy….you name it and you would have it. A grade, B grade and C grade… all grades of films had A grade music. An example to quote would be “Hamen to loot liya mil ke husn walon ne…”a very popular qawwali from a C grade film like “Al Hilal “- 58.

“Guru Ghantaal”(1956) was produced by R N Sharma and N K Kaushik and directed by S M Yusuf for V K Pictures, Bombay. This movie had Shiela Ramani, Motilal, Usha Kiran, Agha, Sundar, Mirza Musharraf, Paro, Sheikh, Kesri, Vijaybala, Ravikant , Jagdev etc in it.
According to HFGK, there were nine songs in the movie. Two songs from the movie have been covered in the blog.

It was a few days back that I received an unusual e mail from Sudhir Ji
Requesting that you may please slow down on the posts. I am trying to pull together an upcoming anniversary, against the some artist stats. So I request that you may please limit your postings to two posts for the next 5 to 6 days. I will also try to post at least one song, or maybe two, to keep the pace at 3 to 4 posts per day.
If feasible, please send me the tags information for the songs to be posted, a day in advance. I just want to ensure that the anniversary I am targeting and the stats I am trying to reach, coincide when required.
So accordingly I slowed down to two posts per day, one post being a “debutant” movie post and another post being “YIPPEE” post. But I found that Sudhir Ji himself would not be posting the promised one or two posts for the day.

“Fighting Queen”(1956) was produced and directed by Nari Ghadiali for NKG productions. This stunt movie had the usual cast of Nadia, John Cawas, Pramila, Sheikh, Habeeb, Shamim Chaudhari, Noorjahaan, Anjum, Hanuman, Mustafa, Azeem, Ahmad, S Jahangeer, Shankar Shambhu qawwaal etc in it.

This “social” movie had Geeta Bali, Karan dewan, Begam Para, ram Singh, Krishnakumari, Manorama, Sundar, Leela Mishra, Sulochna, Narbada Shankar, Lotan, Bango etc. Then there were gust appaerances by Zabeen, Chaand Usmani, Tiwari, Bard Prasad, Smriti Biswas, Ranjit Kumari, Vivek, Dhumal, Rajan, Naaz Chandabai, Mohana, Chitra and Johny Walker.
