The place where we stay in Vadodara is near a ‘party plot’ where celebrations, mainly marriage functions take place quite often. Naturally marriage processions too accompany these marriage functions in the road adjacent to the housing society. The sound of the music and singing by the band party create a huge din. The sound of the DJ is so much that it causes vibrations in our third floor flat. There is also one ‘regular’ band party that has a male singer who also sings in a ‘female voice’. Normally they play old songs from the years of 1970s -1980s. This band party is almost a fixture for marriage functions that take place in this locality.

Today 4th August’2024 is the ninety-fifth birth anniversary of singer-actor-producer-director-lyricist & music director Kishore Kumar.
We are paying our tributes to this great son of this soil by listening to and enjoying songs sung by him.

If one goes through the ‘list of movies’ released during this year i.e. 1977, one can notice that this was one among the ‘best years’ for Hindi Films. Today, the 3rd of July is the 72nd birthday of Amit Kumar Ganguly, popularly known as Amit Kumar. Amit Kumar is the son of Kishore Kumar and Ruma Ganguly. Like his father, Amit started singing from an early age and he used to sing at Durga Pooja festivals in Calcutta. At one such function arranged by Bengali actor “Mahanayak” Uttam Kumar, the audience continued requesting encores. While his mother complained that he was singing “filmy” songs, his father decided to bring him to Bombay.

Hullo Atuldom
Before beginning this post, I googled to check out movies starring Sunil Dutt that has music by Laxmikant- Pyarelal. The reason for this search was to remember Laxmikant Shantaram Kudalkar (of the L-P duo) who passed away on 25th May 1998 & Sunil Dutt who left this mortal world on the same date in 2005. Like on previous occasions, the first result from Google was the 1967 hit ‘Milan’. Of course that is a movie that has long been YYIIPPEEEEd on the blog.
A hunt through the films starring Sunil Dutt helped me dig out a film that released in 1980.

‘Maan Apmaan’ (1979) was produced and directed by N V Deshpande. The cast included Sanjeev Kumar, Kanan Kaushal, Sushma Shiromani, Usha Solanki, Gajanan Jagirdar, Dhumal. Mohan Choti, Ratnamala, Asit Sen, Jayshree T, Shammi, Vishwa Mehra, Neelam etc. As per IMDb, the film was in the making since 1968 with Sanjeev Kumar and Kanan Kaushal (who, at that time, were yet to get established as successful actors). The film got delayed and at one time it was almost shelved. It was only when Sanjeev Kumar became a star and Kanan Kaushal came into limelight with her box office hit film, ‘Jai Santoshi Mata’ (1975), the film was revived, reshot and released in August 1979. The film was dubbed in Gujarati also.
