‘Chandamama’ was a children’s monthly magazine known for its illustrations, long running mythological and magical stories. I was a huge fan of it & used to be gifted with a copy of it, as reward, for good showing in curricular & co-curricular activities. I had a collection of those books along with a few editions of Champak, Phantom, Mandrake, Tarzan & Amar Chitra Katha, like most children of those times.

Donon ke dil hain majboor ‘finance’ se … film hi release naa ho to ham kya karein. 😊
Today’s song is a lovely duet song penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri. But the irony of this song is that it never came on the screen despite being recorded (and shot*) for not one but two different movies. However, in its second edition the male singer was different and credit for music direction was also given to only one of the composers and not to the ‘duo’ of composers as was the case in the older movie.

The movie had Vijay Anand (double role), Rekha and Asha Sachdev in lead roles. The movie also had evkumar, Madan Puri, Rajeeta Thakur, Kuljeet, Sulochana(Ruby) in it. David and Manmohan had made guest appearances. “Agar abhee naa to phir kabhee naa …” that is what I thought on listening to this today’s song. Since I want to see it here on the blog as early as possible, I am sharing it a couple of days after I came across it. This song is from the movie ‘Chor Ho To Aisaa-1978’. The music for this movie was composed by R.D. Burman. So, this is the third movie after ‘Jeewanmukt-1973’, and ‘Ujaalaa Hi Ujaalaa-1974’ where the music for the movies was composed by R.D Burman and they were missing from the blog till I introduced them here. I was under the impression that all movies, at least from the ‘seventies’’ where music composer was R.D. Burman have already got represented on the blog. That is why it comes as a surprise whenever I come across R.D. Burman of 1970s that are not yet represented in the blog.

The song in this post is from the ‘1973’ movie ‘Double Cross’. I had mentioned it in my earlier post with a song from this movie, that I have memories of watching this movie somewhere in 1975-1976 at a small town Malkapur (on the Akola-Bhusawal rail route) in Maharashtra. The song ‘main jhonkaa mast hawaa kaa’ that I presented from this movie, was the only thing that I am able to associate with this movie. I had no recollections about the story of this movie and other songs till I became associated with this blog in 2012.

Kamsune-Ansune Songs of Asha Bhosle – 3

Four years ago, our friend and a regular contributor to this blog Sadanand Kamath Ji, introduced a movie which was ready in 1975 but had to wait a full 13 years before finally getting a release in 1988. This movie was titled as “Aaj Raat Ko” in 1975 only for this to be changed to “Faisla” in 1988. The song presented by Kamath Ji was a gem by Mohd. Rafi Saab – Champa Khiledaar
Today, I’ll be presenting a beauty of a song from this movie. “Koi Toh Aaye Re” is sung by Asha Bhosle, penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri and composed by R D Burman.

Today’s song is from a film with a funny title – Dhobi Doctor-1954.
During my initial days of career in the Pharmaceutical industry, this was the name we used for a Fake doctor or a R.M.P doctor, practicing in villages and small towns or the poor areas of cities. The joke on them was that they would wash the patients clean of their money instead of treating their disease ! Hindi film industry is replete with comical film titles galore. A sample of some film titles….Aaja Nachle, Aadam ka janam, Aag laga do sawan ko, Awara Paagal Deewana, Bombai ki Billi, Banana Brothers, Chhatri Chor, Chaar Chakram, Chillar party, Dhan Dhana Dhan, Faaltu, Gabroo, Ghar mein ho sali to poora saal Diwali etc.etc. I stop here because the list will be too long.
