(12th Remembrance Anniversary Day of Rajesh Khanna – 18th July’2024)
Today 18th July 2024 is the ‘Twelfth remembrance’ anniversary of Rajesh Khanna. He was born on 29th December’1942 and he passed away on 18th July’2012.
On this occasion, as a tribute to him, here is a song from the movie ‘Aanchal-1980’. Regulars on this blog must have noticed that majority of the Rajesh Khanna songs from his earlier movies (1967-1976) were covered on this blog in the initial years of this blog. These song-posts then were read with much interest and some regular commentators would post their comments on these posts with passion. And why not, some of them were big fans of Rajesh Khanna. Among these regulars used to be one of our senior team-members Raja Saab. He also wrote many heartfelt posts on Rajesh Khanna on this blog. In recent years he has taken a break from writing on the blog, and I hope that and wish that he will make a comeback in future on the blog.

The movie had Zaheeda, Vinod Mehra, Sonia Sahni, Ranjeet, Anjali Kadam, Shahzaad, Nazeer Kashmiri, Rafia Sultana, Sahay, Aarif, Sami, Asgar, Qaiser etc in it. Regulars on the blog are aware that we are looking back at the missing movies released fifty years ago right from the beginning of this decade of ‘2021-2030’. In other words we are looking back at the decade of 1971-1980 from the beginning of this decade. It means we looked back at the missing movies of 1971 during 2021, missing movies of 1972 during the years 2022 and the missing movies of 1973 during the year 2023. Now we are into the year 2024 and so we are looking at the missing movies of 1974.

Rakhee Gulzar- Neetu Singh- Rishi Kapoor formed the core cast with Deven Verma, Satyen Kappu, Gita Siddharth, Sheetal, Jagdish Raj, Roopesh Kumar, Yunus Parvez, Vikas Anand etc. playing supporting characters. Parikshit Sahni had a special appearance & Shashi Kapoor was in a guest appearance. Rajee Singh (Neetu Singh’s mother in real life) & Kiran Vairale had tiny roles (blink & miss appearances).

In my last article, I had made a passing reference to the film, ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’ (1992) in the context of the prelude music of one of the songs of the film which is the inspiration for the prelude music of the song that was discussed in the aforesaid article. This film suddenly reminded me of its director, Mansoor Khan who had successfully directed ‘Qayaamat Se Qayaamat Tak’ (1988) and some more. From his filmography, he directed his last film, ‘Josh’ (2000) and was the co-producer of ‘Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Naa’ (2008). It is a rare instance for a film director who has successfully directed four films in a row and vanished from the film industry. It was an interesting quest for me to know as to why he shunned the film industry.
