Today’s song is from a social film, Rangeela-1953.
The film was produced and directed by Master Bhagwan for his own banner Bhagwan Art Productions, Bombay.The cast included Bhagwan, Poornima,Vivek, badri prashad, Baburao pehalwan, heera Sawant, Madhav Kale, Kammo, Cuckoo, Indira and a host of Bhagwan’s regular artists. Unlike other films of Bhagwan, C.Ramchandra did not give music to this film as he was busy with the film Anarkali-1953. So, Jamal Sen was the Music Director. Though a gifted and talented musician, he was known to be an unlucky Music Director.

If 300 duets of a pair of singers is an enormous achievement then what will we say about twice that number of duets ? 600 duets !! That is a mind boggling mind numbing number of duets. The film was produced by Dhirubhai Desai and his son Sharad Desai for their family banner Sharad Productions, Bombay. The director of this film was Dhirubhai Desai. Music Director was a veteran of such films – S.N.Tripathi. He used 4 lyricists for the film’s 10 songs namely, Bharat Vyas (3 songs), G.S.Nepali (2), B.D.Mishra (3) and Saraswati Kumar ‘Deepak’ (2). वगर्ना शहर में ‘ग़ालिब’ की आबरू क्या है
No need to say here that the above ghazal is the kalam of Mirza Ghalib. His takhallus is his signature in the last Shair. Like the painters sign at the bottom of the canvas. Newer trend here is the thumb impression, biometric is the new signature. Going back in time.
