‘Gulmohar’ (2023) was produced under the banner of 3 film production companies – Star Studios, Chalkboard Entertainment and Autonomous Works and was directed by debutant Rahul Chittella. The cast included Sharmila Tagore, Manoj Bajpayee, Simran, Suraj Sharma, Kaveri Seth, Utsavi Jha, Santhy, Jatin Goswami, Gandharv Dewan, Chandan Roy, Anurag Arora, Devika Shahani, Shriharsh Sharma, Talat Aziz, Vinod Nagpal, Danish Sood, Tanvi Rao, Abhinav Bhattacharjee, Tripti Sahu, Nargis Nandal, Varun Narayan, Kanishk Seth, Puja Sarup, Deepak Bagga, Kavita Seth, Angad Sharma etc. Amol Palekar made a guest appearance in the film. i am just unable too stay away from the blog.
7th March is the 65th birthday of a highly versatile actor who goes by the name Anupam Kher. His journey in Bollywood began with a movie, where as a 28-year-old, he portrayed the character of a 65 year old senior whose son dies in the US and the senior has to struggle his way through corrupt excise officers to get the mortal remains of his son released from cargo. Anupam was excellent in that role and he won all awards possible in that year. But what followed this success was- he was stuck portraying characters much older than his calendar age- Madhuri Dixit’s father in Tezaab, Anil Kapoor (who is a year younger to Anupam) had Anupam playing his grandfather in Vijay (1988). As if playing Anil Kapoor’s grandfather was not enough his character was father to Hema Malini and Raj Babbar, father in law to Rajesh Khanna and Moushmi; and finally even Rishi Kapoor’s grandfather. The only other actor (in my knowledge) who has played older character with elan is Sanjeev Kumar.

Today (18 september) is the birthday of Shabana Azmi. Daughter of Kaifi Azmi and Shaukat Azmi, Shabana Azmi made her debut in arts movies in early 1970s. after a few years, she made it to the mainstream movies. She was a misfit in the usual leading lady kind of singing dancing roles, but she was good in roles that required some real acting. and she got roles that exploited her acting ability.

If one asks old Hindi film song buffs about the song “ek chameli ke mandwe tale from ‘Cha Cha Cha’ (1964), almost all of them would say that the song was sung by Mohammed Rafi and Asha Bhonsle. Most of them would even know the name of the film and that the song was composed by Iqbal Qureshi. Those who have watched the movie or video clip of this song, all of them would remember that the song was picturised on a modest looking Helen and Chandrashekhar. But very few would know as to who wrote the song.
