#the Special Voices of the Decade (1971-1980) – 8 # Usha Mangeshkar #
———————————————–———————————–—————— ——-
Welcome all to the eighth article in this series. Today’s voice is Usha Mangeshkar.
Today’s voice needs no introduction as all of us like minded people are aware about her family members and how she joined her elder sisters in singing for movies.
We are also aware of how she has carved a niche for herself among the many singers who ruled the hearts of millions of cine goers and HFM lovers in all these years.

Geeta Dutt – Solos and Duets (05)
———————————–————–
Among the first few songs, I had selected for posting in this series, is this group song, with folksy tune. The film is ‘Chaalbaaz’ (1958), the music is composed by Chitragupt and lyricist is Prem Dhawan. The title of the film evokes memories of late Sridevi and her double role and the comic act in the film of same title in the year 1989.

Rajesh Khanna – Birth Anniversary on 29/12/2020
—————————————————————-
Rajesh Khanna, the first superstar of hindi films, was born as Jatin Khanna on 29/12/1942 at Amritsar, Punjab. He is said to have had 17 solo hits from 1969 to 1971. This might be the only thing where Rajesh Khanna is ahead of superstar of the millennium, Amitabh Bachchan. He holds the record of 48 Platinum Jubilee hits and 26 Golden jubilee hits plus 22 silver jubilee hits. Certainly overtook the Silver Jubilee star Rajendra Kumar in a big way, who had 25 silver Jubilees in his time.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020)–Song No.101
———————————————————————————–
This date ten years ago (viz 19 december 2010) saw seven songs getting covered from seven movies. First song of the day was covered at 9:19 AM and the final song at 1:01 PM. So unlike other days, when all songs would get covered before 10 AM, this day I struggled to publish the songs of the day.
Here are the details of the seven songs covered that day:-
| Blog post number | Song | Movie (year) | Remarks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3374 | Tum kyaa jaano more maathe ki bindiyaa ka mol | Kaneez(1949) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
| 3375 | Muhabbat par bahaar aati jahaan gulzaar ho jaataa | Shair (1949) | Movie YIPPED by now |
| 3376 | Duniyaa waalon badaa hai mushqil apne dil ko todnaa | Chhoti Bhaabhi(1950) | Seven songs covered out of nine |
| 3377 | Dil le gaya ji koi dil le gayaa | Sanam(1951) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
| 3378 | Mere chaand mere laal re | Deewaana(1952) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
| 3379 | Aji o suno to | 12 O’clock(1958) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
| 3380 | Ham jee lenge bin tumhaare…tum meri zindagi ho | Dillagi (1966) | 4 songs covered out of 7 |
One can see that five out of seven movies whose songs were discussed ten years ago have since been YIPPEED.

15 August 1975 saw the release of a movie that went on to become an all time surprise hit. No, I am not talking about “Sholay”(1975) which was released on that date. “Sholay”(1975) was a big budget multistarrer movie and it was expected to do well at the box office, at least by the makers of the movie, if not the trade pundits.
Another movie was released on 15 august 1975. It was a low key release in a few movie halls. This movie was expected to do a modest business and was expected to last just one or two weeks in movie halls before being replaced by other movies.
But surprisingly, this movie, which had no big stars, and which was a religious movie (that was considered infra dig by city bred movie goers) began to draw crowds that was comparable to the crowd thronging to watch “Sholay”(1975).

I have actively looked for songs on ‘dheere dheere’ theme and have found a few good songs from 50’s decade. In this process, I found many songs which suit this theme and are already posted, apart from some famous songs which I had listed in an earlier post of this series.

“Son of Sindbad” and “Daughter of Sindbad” were both released in 1958. So it seems to me that they were twins. 🙂
“Daughter of Sindbad”(1958) was directed by Ratilal for Starland Productions movie, Bombay. The movie had Jairaj, Nadira, Pran, Maruti, Tiwari, Kamal Kapoor etc in it. The movie had eight songs in it. One song has been covered in the past.
