Yesterday, just like that, I googled ‘nine thousand’. Did not expect to find anything really interesting and useful to write about. After all, it is just another number. But really, I was surprised. Wow, never thought I would find such an interesting information description that would be so appropriate for this huge milestone that we have arrived at today.

Chris Gayle’s recent record breaking feat in the 20/20 match at Bangalore, nowhere near compares with Atul ji’s performance on this blog. :D :D

I would challenge Chris Gayle to continue scoring this way, even for just one more match. Oh, I am so confident that he will not be able to repeat his performance. Not very soon, and neither so convincingly. But on our blog, the centuries being posted by Atul ji are remarkable – consistent, and incessant in their regularity. Just two weeks, give or take a day, and there we are, another century notched up on the board.

Seven thousand. And the mind says, Goodness, are we already there?

A fabulous pace and a fantastic record. The steady pace with which the team is pulling together is simply marvelous. And more than that, it is Atul ji’s single minded devotion to this endeavor. One can barely begin to imagine the amount of time and effort that he is relentlessly putting in, day in and day out. That is nothing less than fantastic.

The year – 1997. For the first time ever (October ’97), an Indian artist is being honored as the ‘Artist of the Month’ by MTV channel on cable TV. At the age of 64, a Maharashtrian housewife who loves to cook, and is a grandmother, Asha Bhosle graced the honors. And mind you, this recognition is voted for by the MTV audience, a population that primarily consists of teen agers. At an age when most people in many walks of life are either retired or contemplating a more relaxed and sedate life, this diva of Hindi film music, went on to completely reinvent herself. At the age of 64, with a new makeover, she rose once again to become the queen of funky pop.

Every now and then, we lovers of this blog like to get together in this space and celebrate a milestone or landmark that this blog has achieved.

It may be a landmark to celebrate a particular artist’s hundredth (or even thousandth) song on this blog. Or it may be a landmark to celebrate yet another “century” on the blog song-count itself.

Recently, as we have now got multiple contributors to this blog, we have also celebrated “centuries” by contributors.

Each one of these milestones always gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling.

Even as I type out this write-up, my fingers are trembling. And I am not exaggerating! I have written over 50 write-ups for this blog so far and yet I find myself struggling to put down my thoughts coherently for this particular piece. It is not as if I have writer’s block (which I may also well have) ; it is just that the occasion seems to have got the better of me. I find myself totally inadequate to the occasion, and although I’ve just started, I have this nasty foreboding that I am going to make a mess of this, I am going to end up “choking”. I am suddenly beginning to empathise and sympathise with the South African cricket team. :D

Bollywood movies and Indian Railways are two of the major unifying factors for this vast nation of India. And these two often come face to face. We have people sitting in railway trains and singing songs (ask beggars on local trains) and on the other hand we have movies depicting songs sung in trains.

This is a very special song for this blog. This song is the 1000th song being posted in this song. So I wanted this song to be a special song. And I believe the song that I have chosen for the occasion is nearly perfect.
