“Nastik” (1954) is known for some very nice memorable songs. The well known song “dekh tere sansaar ki haalat kya ho gayi sansaar” is from this very movie, which I have posted in this blog.

The golden era of Bollywood movie songs was supposed to have ended circa 1980 when lyrics took the backseat and music became synonymous with plagiarised disco beats. Most songs of 1980s had trouble maintaining their popularity for more than a few weeks. Creation of all time great timeless classics became a thing of the past in 1980s.

Baba man ki aankhen khol

“Dhoop Chaaon” (1935) was a milestone movie for Bollywood. It was the first movie where playback singing was used, though it was not the same as playback singing as it is known today. It then only meant that the actor could concentrate on acting during picturisation and he would get the song recorded earlier or later. The actor himself/ herself needed to sing of course.

Main ban ki chidiya

Even those who do not think much of old songs may have heard of this song or at least this movie. This movie called “Achhut Kanya” (untouchable girl) produced in 1936 was obviously made on a topic that was too far ahead of its time and the makers of this movie did a great social service by making a movie on this topic. It was the first out of only two movie that Mahatma Gandhi is reported to have seen, the other movie being “Ram Rajya”.
