“Pyaar Kiye Jaa” (1966) was a Chitralaya Pictures production. This movie was directed by C V Sridhar. The star cast included Shashi Kapoor, Kishore Kumar, Kalpana, Mumtaz, Rajshree (South), Mehmood, Om Prakash, Chaman Puri, Shivraj, V D Puraanik, Veena KUmari, Shyamlal, N S Bedi etc.

January 9th is the birth anniversary of Mahendra Kapoor and the death anniversary of Qamar Jalalabadi ( Om Prakash Bhandari). Qamar Jalalabadi had been writing songs for Hindi films since 1942. Who can forget “sun mere saajnaa” , an immortal song written by him in film AANSOO (1949) among many of his songs. The very fact that he had worked with almost all prominent music directors of his time is a testimony not only of his calibre as a lyricist but also of his pliable nature.

I never watched “Naya Zamaana”(1971), but I read the screenplay of this movie. Yes, those were the days when the screenplay of movies used to be published and they were eagerly lapped up by movie lovers. I read the screenplays of not only this movie, but also that of “Aasheerwaad” (1968), “Kati Panag”(1970), “Bobby” (1973) etc. These screenplays also had stills from the movie. These books described the story so vividly that one could visualise the movie in the eyes of the mind. Much later, when I watched “Bobby”(1973), I felt like I had watched this movie earlier while in reality I had only read its screenplay.
