“Anokhi Ada” (1948) was a Mehboob Production movie. It was produced and directed by Mehboob Khan. The movie had Surendra, Naseem Bano, Prem Adeeb, Cuckoo, Bhudo Advani, Nawab, Zeb Qureshi, Reehan, Pratima Devi, Murad, Amir Banoo, Wasker, Abdul, Haroon, Master Ghulam Mohamed etc in it.

Jagdeep and Nanda played lovebirds in “Bhaabhi” (1957). Two years later, they play brother and sister in “Barkha” (1959).

Both these movies had another thing in common, viz lyrics by Rajinder Krishan and music by Chitragupta. Jagdeep had got a song to sing in “Bhaabhi” (1957), namely Chali chali re patang meri chali re. Here in “Barkha” (1959), we find Jagdeep and Nanda singing a bhai-bahan duet as they are travelling in 1950s style, viz on a bullock cart. 🙂

Janmashtami is a festival that is celebrated all over the country by all hindu communities. It signifies the birth of Lord Krishna in the Jail where Devaki was imprisoned. The story is that after he was born Vasudeva transports him to Gokul to the home of Yashoda. Hence the next day, viz. the day after Janmashtami is celebrated as Gokulashtami with his life in Gokul being re-enacted as Dahi Handi. As Yashoda was the one who brought him up, she is often regarded as the Maiyya of Krishna. For me the festival entails having sweets being fried, and then stored in the house for me to eat in “krishna-style” for the next few days. 😀

Today (10th august 2012) is Janmashtami, which is a holiday in India. Today is friday, which means that the holiday is followed by the weekend. So in effect there are many people in India who now have a long weekend ahead of them, and I am one of them. 🙂
