The 1975 blockbuster movie “Sholay” needs no introduction, but few people are aware that a movie of the same name was also made in 1953. This movie “Shole” (1953) had Ashok Kumar ,Beena Rai ,Poornima ,Manmohan Krishna ,Jeewan ,Mirza Musharraf,Baby Naaz etc in it.

I have discussed a song from “Saawan Aaya Re”(1949) in the past. Here is another song from this movie. The song shows a lady asking the man (Kishore Sahu) to marry her whereas the man who is having a parallel affair with her sister as well, naturally tries to stall her, asking her that there is all the time in the world for all that and one should rather spend that time in activities such and singing and dancing. On his prompting, this song and dance commences.

Though Deewali is one of the most important festivals in India, Hindi movies do not have adequate number of Deewali songs in them. This is in sharp contrast to the songs for another major Indian festival, viz Holi. There are many more “Holi” songs than we have “Deewali” songs.
