Three posts in three days! That’s the upside of being restricted to bed. Yes, you have heard it right – I have been restricted to being on bed or a recliner following a major reconstructive orthopaedic surgery to both my feet last week.

So, the current routine is to get up in the morning, and after having a cup of tea, sit down on the recliner with both my feet up in the air, and write a post on some of the rare hindi film songs which have made a place in my heart. These rare songs give me the maximum pleasure and help in alleviating my neuropathic pain to some extent.

It so happens that you have a song in your playlist which you enjoy for the fast pace at which it plays. You start an invisible dance to its beats and shake your legs to its amazing music.

One such song is today’s song which I present to you all. The song is from a 1973 movie Rickshawala, which is a remake of a Tamil movie “Rickshawkaran”, which starred the superstar of Tamil Cinema M G Ramachandran. Rickshawkaran was released on 29 May 1971. It was a major commercial success, with a theatrical run of over 100 days. MGR was awarded the National Film Award for Best Actor for this movie.

Today’s song is from a Muslim Social film ‘Paak Daman’ (1957).

Why I am specifying Muslim social is because it was a film depicting the Muslim social culture in India. India is a country where there are many religions living together for hundreds of years. The major 8 religions in India are Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, Judaism and Zoroastrianism (Parsee). There are hundreds of smaller religions thriving in India , apart from these.

Today’s song is from the costume film ‘Neelofar’ (1957).

Thousands of films are made as talkie films after 1931 and the tradition has been that just before its release and after it was censored, a booklet of 4-5 pages giving information about the film was published. Interested persons would buy them at throw away price of few Annas to get an idea and details about the said film at a glance. Footpath sellers outside the theaters were seen in earlier days. Later on such booklets of old films became difficult to procure and collectors of such items paid heavy prices for them.

Today’s song is from a social film Albeli-1955.

This is a very rare song and I spent more than a month searching for this song, but could not get it. Finally, on my request I got the audio MP3 format of this song from my friend Syed Zafar Shah ji. He has always been very helpful to me. I have few other well known song collectors like Girdharilal Vishwakarma ji, Vishwas Nerurkar ji and Deepak Choudhari ji, who extend their help whenever I request them. I consider it my good luck to know them so well.

Today’s song is from the Costume film Aan Baan-1956.

I remember, a few years ago, our Atul ji had said ” Indian people love discussing on 3 topics. Politics, Cricket and Movies. ” It is true. In any group, the general discussion is about one of these topics. Those interested in politics are usually staunch supporters of some party and the discussions are not only vehement, but sometimes so forceful that even long term relations can be at stake.

Today’s song is from a Costume film Roop Sundari-1964.

This routine ” King-Queen-Vazir” type C grade film was directed by Chandrakant (Gaur). His name is not very famous, but he was one of those artistes of the first generation of Hindi films, who was a multi-faceted person. He was an actor, producer, director, Lyricist and a music director. In the early phase of the Hindi films, being “a jack of all trades’ was a guarantee of a permanent job in a film studio and a sure way of survival with respect. I remember another such artiste – Badri prasad. He was an actor- first as a Hero and then as a character artiste, Producer, Director, lyricist, Singer, Music Director and also a Choreographer. (He was a Sanskrit scholar too and an author, according to his daughter). I remember his roles in films like ” Albela”-1951 and ” Hum sab chor Hai”-1956.
