In this article, I have picked up for discussion Gautam Ghosh’s film, ‘Yaatra’ (2007) which comes under the ambit of the parallel cinema. The meaning of the film’s title in the context of the story is ‘transition journey’. This is a complicated film. The audience is likely to get confused as to how much of the story in a novel narrated by the protogonist is real and fictional when he narrates the story to a fellow traveller, an upcoming film-maker. Some parts of the story are autobiographical in nature while some are creative imaginations and thus fictional in nature. The transition from fiction to fact in the novel is so blurred that the upcoming film-maker gets confused. In the end, the film-maker decides to give his own perspective of the story in his screenplay when he decides to make the film based on the novel.

Today’s song is from a film having a very ‘confusion causing’ title- Lachak-1951.

Yesterday morning, one of my Facebook friends, who is also a lover of old hindi film songs, sent me a message on messenger….” Today SLBS had broadcast a song from the film Lachak-1951,naming Inayat Ali as the Music Director. As per HFGK Lachak-1951 had music by Pt. Motiram. I am confused. Can you please solve this issue ?”

#the Decade of Fifties – 1951 – 1960 #
————————————————————————
(Lyricist Kavi Pradeep-5)
—————————–

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Dashehraa-1956’. This is a rare song which has been made available more than a year back on internet. Regulars on this blog would have noted that there were many songs that were considered as ‘not traceable’ or were hitherto unavailable on internet are coming up gradually in recent years or more precisely in last couple of years. During the ‘regulars meet at Mumbai’ in 2023 I had made this observation during discussions about such ‘untraceable’ songs. On this blog our senior Shree Sudhir jee had taken up a series for the ‘missing films’ of the decade of ‘sixties’ earlier. At that time only one song from such movies (around hundred in numbers) was dug up and posted. I have noted that for all such movies now their other songs have also come up and posted either by music companies or passionate music lovers. This is ultimately going to increase the number of songs available with us and in turn reducing the number of songs that were considered as lost or un-traceable.

Today’s song is from an obscure and unknown Mythological film – Ganga Maiya-1955.

The title of the film clearly indicates that it is the story of the River Ganga, which is so respected and revered in India that it is called Ganga Maiya or Mother Ganga.
