#the Decade of – 2000 – 2010 #
———————————————————————

During the travels that I had in recent months, I had a trip to north. It included visiting Dalhousie, Dharamshala, and the tourist spots near to these places. The last leg of our trip was visiting Amritsar. We had planned to visit the Jalianwaala Bagh Memorial, Golden Temple and the Wagah Border. On 16th April 2023 morning we started from Dharamshala for Amritsar. Since we got late in the morning we reached Amritsar around three o’ clock in the afternoon. We straightway visited the Jalianwaala Bagh Memorial first and from there decided to go to Wagah Border first as the time for beating retreat ceremony was getting closer. So we thought that after the visit to the border we would be visiting the Golden Temple in the evening later.

wo tere pyaar ka gham, ek bahaana thhaa sanam
apni kismat hi kuchh aisi thhi ke dil toot gaya

While recording this song for ‘My Love’ (1970), Mukesh had told Daan Singh that people will remember this song for long after they are no more in this world. Mukesh’s prophecy has become true.

Hullo Atuldom

Logon Ki Zubaan Par Apna Naam Hai Pehla” – this post of mine spoke of how I made it to the Gangout of like-minded HFM lovers who also go by the name ‘Atulites’ of ‘Atuldom’. How Sudhir ji set the ball rolling in the beginning of May and after numerous back-n-forth messages (at that time I was not a party to the discussions) June 2nd was fixed as the date for the Gangout. I was happy that I could attend the Gangout & be a part of the enthusiastic group that is highly knowledgeable about all things related to music – not necessarily only Hindi Films, especially finding new information & saving it up for posterity.

Today’s song is from a debut making film ‘Ek Aurat’ from 1948.

This is one of those 206 films made between 1931 to 2012, whose title started with the word ‘EK’ – the most favourite prefix of the filmmakers. Out of these 206 films, 32 films started with ‘Ek Aur. . .’. Just a trivia !

Songs Repeated in Hindi Films – 28
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Of course yes. A repeat song again. And what a wonderful song at that.

The original song from the film ‘Hum Dono’ has become such an iconic fixture in the nostalgia, one of those peerless creations that may not be duplicated , maybe ever. It was the first and the only stint of music director Jaidev with Dev Sb’s Navketan banner. This singular partnership, with Sahir Sb writing the lyrics has given a bouquet of long and deep memories to generations of listeners.

When we discuss songs of 1930s and 1940s, we tend to think that those days that are now 80 to 90 years behind us were similar to present days, as far as listening to songs was concerned. This assumption is highly incorrect. Today everyone is able to listen to any song that is available online. Those days technology was far less advanced. Forget internet, even Radio and TV were in their infancy. Record players and movies were the only means to listening to songs. Record players were very expensive. Only rich people could afford them. Even Radio was expensive. Even if Radio was there, there were very few Radio stations that played film songs. For majority of people, visiting movie halls may have been the only way they would be ale to listen to a song. If the movie was a hit movie, then getting entry into the movie hall was a tall order. One needed to brave big crowd and somehow jostle one’s way to the ticket counter and shove one’s hand, with money in it, inside the round counter measuring less than six inch in diameter and tell the counter clerk how many ticket you required.

#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #

# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Debutant Movie-Naalaayak -1978)
——————————————-——————————————

There are few write-ups that I had left unfinished before the ‘gang-out’ happened. They remained unfinished and so got delayed. Today’s post is one such delayed post which was about ‘summer vacations in my childhood days’ and memory of one such movie watched during one summer vacation.

The vacations are over this year and I guess that schools have re-opened everywhere, except a few states where vacations have been extended due to severe heat conditions that still exist.

Hullo Atuldom

There is this gorgeous lady who made her debut into the Hindi film industry in a title role; the movie released on 28th September 1973. That film was commercially successful, went on to win five awards in that year’s Filmfare Awards. It helped the film’s producer- director come out of debts which he had incurred with his previous magnum-opus debacle. The content of this film was the typical Romeo-Juliet kind of romance, presented in a new style; but the commercial success was attributed to the two-fresh-faced-delightful youngsters who emoted on-screen with ease. Small wonder that they won that year’s Best Actor & Best Actress Filmfare awards.

# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Missing movies of 1973-Seetaaraam Radheshyaam-22)
——————————————-———————————————

With this post, we add one more movie of ‘1973’ on the blog. In this ‘golden jubilee’ year for the year ‘1973’, we are adding ‘missing movies’ of the year ‘1973’ on the blog.

Today’s movie is “Seetaaraam Raadheshyaam”. It was directed by Himmat Dave for ‘J.R. Films, Bombay’ and it was a ‘mythological genre’ movie.

Mukesh and his Composers – 25

Today, we come to the 25th post in this series wherein Mukesh’s association with various composers is discussed. Usually, the highlight of posts in such series is the listing of songs in a tabular form wherein all details can be studied/viewed at a glance. However, there are many composers for whom Mukesh sang only a handful of songs. In fact, for the last two posts, it was the case of a solitary song sung for Lachchiram – “Bigdi Mein Koi Poochhnewala Nahin Hota” and Nandu-Pyaare – “Kiski Dharti Kiska Gaam“.
