#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #

# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 121 # Missing Films of 1971- 01#
——————————————-————————————————-—
I had in my earlier posts under this series mentioned that this year ‘2021’ is ‘special’ for movies of the year ‘1971’, because all the movies released over the year in ‘1971’ will be completing the FIFTY years of their respective releases. And as this decade ‘2021-2030’ will progress, the movies released over the years ‘1971-1980’ will progressively be completing ‘fifty years’ of released’.

Today’s song is from a less known Mythological film, from a decade which had not given many religious films – the 40’s. The film is Uttara Abhimanyu-1946.
In the decade of the 40s, few films were made on religious subjects – compared to the 30s or the 50s. But it is also true that the few such films made in the 40s, like Bharat Milap-42 and Ram Rajya-43, underlined the fact that there was plenty of scope for such films and this fructified in the 50’s decade, which can be called as ” The Golden period of Religious Films”, after it churned out the maximum ever – 124 – Mythological films in 10 years’ time.

Hullo Atuldom
“Atulsongaday”- our favourite blog- is 16200+ posts old. We are still discovering popular songs and exclaiming ‘how come this has not yet been posted’. The song with this post is one that will get similar thoughts in the minds of the regular followers.
It is from a movie that I saw in the theatres at the time of its release and fell in love with its lead actors. Of course, falling in love with the moving images on the silver screen is something that I have been a victim of since “Seeta aur Geeta”, “Aradhana” and all the other movies that fall in my list of personal favourites. Small wonder then that I liked what I saw in “Betaab” and it is in the list of movies that I see every time I come across it. Also, the young star-crossed couple that Amrita Singh -Sunny Deol portrayed looked every bit in love with each other, that means they are good actors who did justice to Rahul Rawail’s (the director) judgement in casting them. Finally, ‘star-crossed lovers’ has always been a hit-formula in Indian movies and I am a fan of that formula since “Bobby”.

Today, February 8th is the 5th Remembrance Day of the poet and lyricist, Nida Fazli (12/10/1938 – 08/02/2016) who left for the heavenly abode on this date 5 years back. 80 years ago, Ghazal singer, Jagjit Singh (08/02/1841 – 10/10/2011) was born on this date. More than a co-incidental connection between the two, they had a special connection through their collaborations. Nida Fazli was the master of expressing the romance, realities and the philosophy of life by way of ghazals and nazms while Jagjit Singh added soul to Nida Fazli’s words through his emotive voice.

Today’s song is from the film Khush Naseeb-46. It was an ordinary social film made by Indra Movietone. Directed by V. panchotiya, the film had music by Anupam Ghatak and Pt. Lachhiram Tomar. We do not know who wrote the film’s 12 songs or even who sang these songs. Only few songs(actually only 2) are available on YouTube and the uploader ( Sadanand Kamath ji) has identified singers by voice, wherever possible. The limited cast mentioned in HFGK lists names as Padma Devi, Rukmini Devi, Anjali Roy, Bela Rani and V.Panchotiya. This too being incomplete, we do noit have any idea about its Hero or other artistes.

‘Radio days’ are here again for me. My new workplace is around 55 kms from my residential place, so it takes me around one hour or little a more than that, to reach office.
That gives me a good one-hour time in the morning and in the evening to tune in to ‘Vividh Bharati’.
In the morning my day starts normally with ‘Bharat Ki Goonj’, and in the evening it is ‘Shaam Sindoori’, ‘Sangeet Sarita’ and some part of ‘Jailmala’ if the ‘traffic’ on the way is more.

76th Birthday of Javed Akhtar
————————————————————
Gham-e-dil sunnane ko jee chaahtaa hai
Tumhen aazmaane ko jee chaahtaa hai
Sunaa hai ke jab se bohat door ho tum
Bohat door jaane ko jee chaahtaa hai
Unhen ham se koyi shikaayat nahin hai
Yunhi rootth jaane ko jee chaahtaa hai
Faqat hai yahi unn ki nazron ka dhokaa
Ke dhoke mein aane ko jee chaahtaa hai
Duaa hai ke ham se woh sau baar rootthen
Hamaara manaane ko jee chaahtaa hai
Nazar wo na aayen par unn ki gali mein
Yunhi aane jaane ko jee chaahtaa hai
—————————————————-
I could not find whose ghazal is this is, but giving it here as it rhymes with the title of the movie ‘Dil Chahta hai” (2001).
The song is a duet by Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan. All the songs of this film are penned by Javed Akhtar and composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. At the turn of the century, the melodious songs, sufiana, fusion, newer music instruments were all the new fad. And the foreign location shoots were also back with a bang in mainstream hindi films. It was not only the Yash Chopra films that were shot in Switzerland etc. There is the whole world to explore and Hindi films have been shot at many locations.
