From the three movies eligible for the ‘blog ten-year’ challenge today, we have already represented one today in the morning and taking this another one to add to the celebrations for today. This song is from the 1964 movie ‘Phoolon Ki Sej’ and it is sung by Mohd Rafi and Asha Bhonsle. This song is picturised on Mehmood and Shubha Khote, where the two lovers are singing and enjoying in their ‘famous’ style 😊

As mentioned in the earlier post total four songs were represented on the blog on 19.07.2010 including a song from this movie ‘Phoolon Ki Sej’ (1964).

Today is 19 july 2020. It was on this day in 2008 that this blog had started.

I had observed that the starting date was perhaps pre ordained. That day in 2008 was the first day of the month of Shraawan (or saawan), which is so very appropriate for a HFM blog, seeing that a big chunk of FM is inspired by saawan related songs, viz “rain songs”, “saawan ke jhoole” songs, and many other genres of songs.

I recently made another discovery. 19 july 2008 (and also today viz 19 july 2020) happen to be the 200th day of the year ! So, the belief that some higher forces , (rather than us mortals) are driving the affairs of this blog gets validated yet again.

A week before the 12th birth anniversary of the Blog on July 19, 2020, an idea propped up in my mind. Some time back, I had read the interviews of a 78 RPM record collector of Indore and also of the vintage gramophone turn-table collectors of Pala near Kottayam which were published in some newspapers. Atul ji’s Blog has been in existence for 12 years with almost daily posting of songs. With nearly 15800 songs spread over 4300 films covered and a hit of a little over 1,36,22,000, the Blog must have attained the numero uno position among the musical blogs in India. This is a great achievement. So, I felt that the creator of this Blog – Atul Besra deserves to be interviewed which should get published in newspapers/magazines. This was just my momentary thought.

Today, the 18th of July, is the death anniversary of one of the Hindi film industry’s biggest superstars. Probably one of its most controversial too. And certainly one of its most polarizing.

No prizes for guessing who I’m talking about. Of course, I’m talking about the one-time heartthrob of millions of women, Rajesh Khanna.

It’s been 8 years now since that day in 2012. I still remember the morning I got to hear the news – I was stunned. I knew he was ailing, but even so I never expected it would be so soon.

Zarina Wahab, born this day in 1959, turns 61 today.

My first introduction to this actress of pronounced and natural underplay, was ‘Chit Chor’ of 1976. Yes, for a brief time, the phrase used for her was ‘Chit Chor Girl’. The debut was impressive and the performance in ‘Chit Chor’ was followed up in 1977 with another superb performance in the film ‘Gharonda’.

Today’s song is from the film Albeli-45. This was the first of the three same Title films. The other two were made in 1955 and 1974 ( interestingly, its masculine counterpart Albela was made 4 times- in 1951,1971,1990 and 2001 !).

The film was made by Talwar Productions, Calcutta. The music was composed by G A Chisti, who, while in India, got only B and C grade films. He became a big composer in Pakistan, after he migrated there in 1949. He was not only successful, but also got many awards. At the end of his life, he had become a Faqir. He was popularly known as ” Babaji” in the film industry, here and in Pakistan, due to his helpful and simple nature. As per HFGK, the lyricists of film Albeli were Shanti Swarup and Chisti. The cast was Ramola, Rooplekha, Manorama, Satish, Hiralal, Usha and many others. Albeli-45 is perhaps the only film in which there were three Jew girls as Heroines – Ramola, Rooplekha and Manorama.

Missing Films of 1960s – 115
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Frankly, I never really thought I would be posting a song for this most obscure of films. The name ‘Flying Horse’, with the accompanying information conspicuous for being so frugally available, kind of put this film near the bottom of the list with the likes of ‘Flight to Assam’ and ‘Mahavat’ (both from 1961), for which the expectation for traceability is kind of low enough to be non-existent.
