Yes, this song is from film ‘Mohra’ (1994). Ah but I am not bringing on the film version of the song.
This very song was earlier and originally sung by Mukesh in his inimitable voice in the sixties. The film for which he had sang never reached proper production stages. The song has since remained and gets counted amongst the many NFS that he sang. There are almost no details available about Mukesh version and hence this post will be quite short and devoid of any tables, histograms etc. 🙂

A voice that sounds quite mature, dripping with heavy bass – a baritone that appeared to emerge from somewhere deep inside. Playing this sound on the songs like “Zindagi Pyaar Ki Do Chaar Ghadi Hoti Hai”, or “Lele Dard Paraaya Kar De Door Gham Ka Saaya”, or “Jaane Wo Kaise Log The Jinke Pyaar Ko Pyaar Mila”, “Ganga Aaye Kahaan Se. . .”, and many more of this ilk, sounds so natural and, well, so suitable. Today’s song is from the film Kaneez-49. The film had 12 songs. 11 songs are already posted. This is the last song of the film to be discussed here.
HFGK mentions mukhada of this song as ” Dil bechane nikla hai”, sung by Durrani and Rajkumari. There are at least two uploads of this song on YouTube. One is from our Sadanand Kamath ji and the other is from Saregama company. In both uploads, the first line is missing and the song starts as ” dil le lo, dil le lo”. However in the Saregama upload,, in the end , the words are ” dil bechane nikla hai, dil ka saudagar, dil le lo dil le lo”, confirming that this is the same song as mentioned in HFGK. As such, Girdharilal Vishwakarma ji has uploaded this song on Surjit ji’s site, from his record. So, there is no doubt.

We remember Nightingale of Punjab on her remembrance day today.
Surinder Kaur (25 November 1929 – 14 June 2006) was the recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri in 2006. She was the recipient of numerous other awards including Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and also a doctorate degree by Guru Nanak Dev University. Much of her life details can be easily found on her wiki page and many other articles and interviews on the net.
Her popularity of course stems from the fact that she pioneered and popularised folk songs of Punjab to the rest of the world. However, readers are well aware that she had a very short but memorable stint in HFM in the late forties. She gave playback to 57 songs in 21 films during the golden era and many of her songs are remembered and played to this day.

I became aware about the stories built around the fictional character of Byomkesh Bakshi, the murder mystery solver when a TV serial based on these stories was telecast on the Doordarhsan’s National channel in early 1990s. The serial was directed by Basu Chatterjee with Rajit Kapoor playing the role of Byomkesh Bakshi and KK Raina as Ajit, his assistant. During those days, the character of Byomkesh Bakshi became known all over India. ‘Byomkesh’ became synonymous with persons having inquisitive nature.

Today (13 july 2020) is the birth anniversary of Prem Dhawan (13 june 1923-7 May 2001) Prem Dhawan is mainly known as a lyricist, but he was also a music director as well as an actor and choreographer.
Prem Dhawan made his debut as a lyricist in 1946 with the movie “Dharti Ke Lal”(1946). His last movie as a lyricist was was “Appu Raja”(1989).

Today’s song is from the film “Uljhan” (1942). This was the first of the three same title films. The second came in 1975 and the third was in year 2000. This was the second film by Acharya Art Productions, floated by director N R Acharya. This was after he left Bombay Talkies, to chart out his own path, without either following the splinter group led by S Mukherjee or remaining with the rest of Bombay Talkies staff.

This is one of the songs of which made an impact at the time of watching the film. I had seen this film ‘Phir bhi dil hai Hindustani’ in theatre. This was before the multiplexes, so there were only the theatres, where the folks went to see the movie.
Now in multiplexes which are always above malls, there is the added temptation of shopping. This must be the reason, my husband is so reluctant to go to watch a movie. Over the last few years, I have also lost all interest in watching movies, altogether. As a weekend approaches, I am thinking I want to see this film or that film. Some of those I have seen earlier or some which I have never seen. But the weekend comes and goes, without my attempting to watch them. There must be lot of reasons for this lack of motivation.
