JHUMKE (1946), produced under the banner of Chitra Productions was directed by J K Nanda. The main star cast comprised of Akhtar, Gajanan Jagirdar, Satish, Lalita Pawar and G N Bhat. The story of the film was written by Saadat Hasan Manto. I could not get much information about the film. Even the information on the the star cast of the film was sketchy. Luckily, I found a review of the film in one of the issues of ‘Filmindia’ of 1946. A shortened version of the review is set out below:

Today (16th October 2016) is the birth anniversary of Chitragupt, yesteryear music composer.
It would not be an exaggeration to say that Chitragupt is one of the most under-rated composers of the Hindi film industry. When you think of composers of the golden era of Hindi music, the names that come readily to mind are Naushad, SD Burman, Shankar Jaikishen, OP Nayyar, C. Ramachandra, Roshan, Salil Chaudhary, Hemant Kumar , Madan Mohan etc. Maybe even Ravi.

Yesterday (15 october 2016) was the birth anniversary of Shri Harish Raghuvanshi, HFM enthusiast etraordinaire. He was born on 15 october 1949 in Palghar. After completing his education in Mumbai, he shifted to Surat in 1967 and joined his family business there in 1968.

Though the decade of 1950s is the most well represented decade in the blog, still there are so many melodious songs of the 50s that are yet to be discussed on this Blog. Today’s song is also one such sweet Lata song which was quite popular during its time. It is a solo song Baghi Sipahi-1958, a costume film by V.P.Productions. It was produced by a person who had given us gems like Patanga-49, Sagai-51 and other such films as Aurat, Badal, Laadla, Parbat etc etc, which had become hits. His name is Bhagwandas Varma.

Today is the birth anniversary of Ashok Kumar, one of Hindi film industry’s legendary actors. It is ironic that it also happens to be the death anniversary of his younger brother, Kishore Kumar, another of the industry’s legends.

One thing about life that amazes me is its unpredictability. Let me explain. See when I got the email from Sudhirji in April 2014 informing me about the approaching 10K milestone I had decided to send as many songs as possible to Atul for reaching 10000 as soon as possible. And in right earnest I sent 4 songs over a week in my (personal) “March unto 10000” mission. And I must say Atul was good to me by posting all of them instantly. Then came my unexpected tour of Delhi; and I took a break from my list of romantic songs and sent a Delhi based song. This is one incident that proves that we plan something and we end up doing something else.

AAG KA DARIYA (1953) was produced and directed by Roop K Shorey. The star cast included Karan Diwan and Meena Shorey in the lead roles with Majnu, Satish Batra, Prithviraj Kapoor, Shammi, Uma Dutt, Johny Walker, Kumud Tripathi etc in supporting roles. As per Wikipedia, the film belonged to the genre of melodramatic love story. The title of the film reminded me of a she’r of Jigar Muradabadi which reads as under:
Ye ishq nahin aasaan itna to samajh leeje
Ek aag ka dariya hai aur doob ke jaana hai

Today, the 11th of October, is the birthday of Amitabh Bachchan, superstar, legend, colossus, role model, vagaira, vagaira, vagaira.
Just to clarify, the vagairas here are not meant to demean Mr. Bachchan in any way. Rather, they are meant to stress the fact that there are so many facets to his personality that I stopped trying to list them, after just a few. So no offence of any sort meant.
