“Saajan Ki Saheli” (1980) is a movie which came up in the last stage of the Golden era of Hindi movie music. I apologize to the readers if they feel that I seem to be stuck in the second half of 60s, while I am selecting songs from Usha Khanna’s films. It seems to be true. Hard as I may try, I am not able to extricate myself from the films of the years from 1966 to 1970. And the reason is that I simply keep bumping into one wonderful gem after another, and the music itself compels me to continue writing about this era of Usha ji’s career. “Sunahre Qadam” (1966) is an obscure movie despite being of relatively recent vintage by the standards of this blog. This movie was a Saraswati Kala Mandir presentation. It was directed by Satish Nigam and its star cast consisted of names like Shashikala, Agha, Sabita Chatterjee, Randhir, Rehman who hardly held any star appeal to attract ordinary movie goers to the movie halls. So it should come as no surprise that the movie failed at the box office.
