Rang le aayenge roop le aayenge

I had heard this song “rang le aayenge roop le aayenge” many times during its days in 1970s. This song was quite a popular song of its time, but all this while I was not aware about the movie this song was from. It is only now that I have come to know that the song was from a movie called “Bhanwar” (1976). This by now obscure movie was an Evershine Pictures production. It was produced by Shyam Keswani and Nandu Mirani. Bhappi Sonie was the director. The story of this song was written by Gulshan Nanda who was a very popular Hindi language pulp fiction novelist of those days.

The 1965 film ‘Johar Mehmood in Goa’ is a veritable treasure house of wonderful songs and music. A popular hit in its own time, this film still continues to be known for the songs. Today (29 december 2012) is Rajesh Khanna’s 70th birth anniversary. It is the first year in which Rajesh Khanna is no longer physically with us. But the memory of Rajesh Khanna will remain with us for a long time. People of my generation were just in the right age bracket to be out and out Rajesh Khanna fans. The fan following that Rajesh Khanna enjoyed during his heydays was unbelievable. The population of India has doubled from the time when Rajesh Khanna was at his peak, but I can say that no subsequent actor has come anywhere close to him in fan following.
