A deep, and a very relaxed sound – will not be heard live any more. Jagjit Singh, the icon of ghazal singing in the subcontinent for the past three decades, passed away the day before (10th Oct, 2011). And has left behind an inspired legacy of non-film and film music, mostly in form of ghazals, and in the form of musical scores for many films and albums.

“Ustaadon Ke Ustaad” (1963) was produced by an ambitiously named Production house called Films & Televisions, seeing that there used to be hardly any network of Television in India those days. Thnkfully, they at least produced Films, if not TVs or TV Serials. “Ustaadon Ke Ustaad” (1963) , which was directed by Brij, had Ashok Kumar, Pradeep Kumar, Shakila, Anwar, Sheikh Mukhtar, Amar, Shakeela Banu Bhopali, Helen, Johnny Walker etc in it.

In hind sight, one can say, that there was a different personality hidden inside that was impatient to explode, but was not finding the right expression.
