“Dosti” (1964) was a Rajshri production movie that had an idealistic and moralistic storyline. But the movie is today known for its music. Just about every song ( most of them Rafi solos) went on to become immortal songs. It is difficult to pick the best of them, and I advise that one should avoid the temptation to rank them, and instead one should just enjoy listening to them.

I have mentioned that “Mera Saaya” has several memorable Lata songs. This movie also as a Rafi song and it is just as nicely sung and is just as beautiful to listen to.

Creating myths and perpetuating them is easy when the myth sounds plausible. One of the biggest myths surrounding “na kisi ki aankh ka noor hoon” is that it was written by the last Moghul Bahadurshah Zafar. Most people, including me, believed this myth. But I have come to know that this myth created is not true.

One fine day, I will count all the Rafi songs that he sang for Shammi Kapoor and find out how many such songs were there in all. There just seems to be so many of them. And all of them are so wonderful to listen to. Listening to these songs is a perfect recipe to cheer oneself up.

This is a “new” song for me, though it is from a 1965 movie called “Oonche Log”. The lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri are heavy duty Urdu stuff, which are difficult to decipher. But knowing Majrooh Saab, it must surely mean something profound.

I stumbled upon this song from a forgotten movie called “Aulaad”. What a song for nostalgia buffs this turns out to be ! This song is sung by Rafi under the music direction of Chitragupta ( father of Anand Milind) and Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist.

For a long time, I have been confused between this song and the song “aaj kal tere mere pyaar ke charche har zubaan par”. There was much in common between these songs. Both songs were sung by Rafi for Shammi Kapoor and Shankar Jaikishan were the music director in both cases.
