I had not watched any movies in movie halls between 1972 to 1978. When I joined college and with that got the freedom to do what I pleased, I went on a movie watching spree with a vengeance, as if to make up for the lost time. I would watch all the movies that were released in the city, except “low brow” stuff that got released in old and remotely located movie halls.

“Shama” is a movie title that leads to a serious bout of “same name confusion” among movie and music lovers. Not just casual followers of HFM but even “experts” make grave errors in mistaking one “Shama”with another, and worse, mistaking one music director with another-who also had similar names.

The movie had Nirupa Roy, Trilok Kapoor, Niranjan Sharma, Umakant, Vasantrao Pahalwan, Praveen Kumar, Baby Tabassum, Murad, Master Dhulia, Reva Shankar, satya narayan, Chandabai, Charubala, Neerja, Nagolkar, Pt Iqbal etc in it with Jeevan creditd as a guest artist in it.

“Sati Savitri”(1964), as the name suggests, was a mythological tale of Savitri and Satyawaan, where Savitri brings her husband back from the clutches of Yam, the god of death. Such mythological movies were scoffed at by “educated” city slickers, whereas “less educated” movie watchers, especially of rural and semi rural backgrounds constituted the bulk of audience for such movies.
