BHAJAN MALA – GOLDEN 50s…(Pushp-12….Last of the series)
————————————————————
So, we are ending this Bhajan series today with the most appropriate and suitable Bhajan for the occasion, from the film- Mahapooja-54. The bhajan is sung by Amirbai Karnataki and Tara Harish-both in their last phase of the career. This is a Bhajan-almost an Aarati, but not exactly-in praise of Shri Satyanarayan Swami.

BHAJAN MALA – GOLDEN 50s (Pushp-3)
—————————————
There is a class of people, who make faces when a Mythological film is mentioned. According to them, seeing such films is ” outdated ” and ” Fundamentalist ‘. They feel that those who see such films are way behind the times. These people forget that in the so called ” advanced” world of Hollywood, even today,Mythological, costume and Historical films are regularly produced. Only thing is that these films are no longer advertised on the same scale as was the case a few decades back.

THE VIBRANT 40S (Episode No. 12)
————————————-
Initially, when the Talkie films started, most of the actors and actresses of the silent era, who could speak Hindi/Urdu and sing a little got entry into these films. Soon many Anglo-Indian girls and actors like master Vithal, who could not speak Hindi properly, leave aside singing, had to be excluded from Talkie films.(Master Vithal who was selected as the Hero for India’s First Talkie film,”Aalam Ara”-1931, based on his looks,Physique and his silent film credentials-over the capable Mehboob Khan- gave such pathetic performance in his Hindi/Urdu dialogues that he had to be shown as Unconcious almost throughout the film to hide his poor diction of Hindi/Urdu dialogues.)

Badalte Huye Saathi (Episode 11…LAST SONG)(Lata sings with Chitalkar)
Finally, we have reached the end of this series having just 11 songs. For a theme like BADALTE HUYE SAATHI,11 songs is too less, I know. This subject is so vast that,at best,it can only be represented here, and it is not possible to do full justice to the topic, I agree. When I started this series,I had said that it is not possible to cover all the Major singers or cover the entire period of 1931 to 1960. However, the temptation to write on this topic was so intense that I decided to do it in 10 to 12 episodes, somehow. Utter ” Na- Insaafi “, I am aware of it !

Badalte Huye Saathi (Episode 10th)(Mukesh sings with Lata Mangeshkar)
———————————————————————
I am of the firm opinion that sad songs are best sung by 1) Mukesh 2) Talat and 3) Hemant Kumar. Though I like Mohd. Rafi very much, he is not among the first 3 names for sad songs in my list. The pathos one finds in the voice of Mukesh in unmatched !

Badalte Huye Saathi (Episode No. 8)(Shamshad Begum sings with Mohd. Rafi)
————————————————————————–
A few days back, I met one of my old colleagues after many years. After exchanging pleasantries, he asked me,” you look to be absolutely fit and fine. What are you doing these days ? ” I told him that I spend my time on Internet and that I write articles on old films and music. He looked at me with disbelief first and then with pity.

Badalte Huye Saathi (Episode No. 7) (Shyam Kumar sings with Mohd.Rafi)
————————————————————————
Film Industry is truly a Maya Nagari. No one knows how the luck will change the course of one’s career in Film and Music world. Who would have thought that an ill-nourished looking, slim, imple girl, wearing an ordinary cotton saree, with torn kolhapuri chappals-who waited on an empty stomach for whole night for just one song from Ghulam Hyder-would one day become the undisputed QUEEN of playback singing in Indian Films ?….
