Producer-director-writer, Basu Chatterjee is one of the earliest filmmakers who brought up middle-class related issues on the big screen with films like ‘Saara Aakaash’ (1969), ‘Piya Ka Ghar’ (1971), ‘Rajnigandha’ (1974), ‘Chhoti Si Baat’ (1975), ‘Chitchor’ (1976), ‘Baaton Baaton Mein’ (1979) and many more. He has also made film with other genres of which ‘Kamla Ki Maut’ (1989) was critically acclaimed. But the film failed at the box office. He went back to his favourite genre of middle class family drama with light comedy, and made for Doordarshan a telefilm, ‘Hamaari Shaadi’ (1990). About 3 months back, Doordarshan uploaded the film in digital format on one of the video sharing platforms, with improved audio-visual quality.

Today (11 August 2022) is Rakshabandhan. This is the 15th Rakshabandhan for this blog. The first Rakshabandhan for the blog fell on 16 August 2008. That day saw the iconic Rakshabandhan song namely Bhaiyya mere raakhi ke bandhan ko nibhaana (Chhoti Bahan)(1959) getting covered on the blog.
On those early days, only one song was discussed in a day. Subsequently multiple songs began to be covered daily. Festival days were no exception. So more than one Rakshabandhan songs were also discussed in the subsequent occasions.

Mohammed Rafi – Duets – ‘अ’ से ‘ह’ तक (From ‘अ’ to ‘ह’) – 5
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
/‘ऊ’/
‘ए’ – एक दिल हैं एक जान हैं
तुम मुझे यूं भुला ना पाओगे
जब कभी भी सुनोगे गीत मेरे
संग संग तुम भी गुनगुनाओगे॰ ॰ ॰
क्या सच ब्यान कर गए आप, रफी साब॰ ॰ ॰
Your voice, and your songs are so imprinted on the memory, that the mind sings along the verses, every time it hears any of your songs. These memories are now lifelong; they will not be deserted till the last breath.
Moving forward with the series of duets – I am skipping ‘ऊ’ because no duet song starting with this vowel is available. So I come to ‘ए’, as the starting letter for today’s song.

This song is the 100th duet of Rafi Sb and Geeta Dutt to be posted here on our blog.
As I was browsing the net earlier in the day, checking for articles and source material on Guru Dutt, I came across this she’er (couplet) which was written by the poet Kaifi Azmi in 1964, on hearing the news of Guru Dutt’s demise.
रहने को सदा दहर में आता नहीं कोई,
तुम जैसे गए ऐसे भी जाता नहीं कोई
माना की उजालों ने तुम्हें दाग़ दिये थे,
बे रात ढले शमा बुझाता नहीं कोई
rehne ko sadaa dehar mein aata nahin koi
tum jaise gaye aise bhi jaata nahin koi
maana ki ujaalon ne tumhen daagh diye the
be-raat dhale shama bujhaata nahin koi
It is true, no one comes in this world
To reside for ever
But the way you departed
No one even leaves that way
Granted that the brightness of flame
May have inflicted painful burns
But still, no one douses the lamp
Before the night comes to an end
Remembering Guru Dutt, the vital genius of Hindi cinema, on his anniversary today (9 july 2017). Had he been alive, he would have been 92 today.

Today, we are on track to reach the 10K target. And yes, of course, we must also proclaim the 6th anniversary of this blog. Way back in 2008, this day is the day that Atul made a small start with a song from the film ‘Anokhi Raat’. As Sadanand ji has written in his post yesterday,
gair saath aate gaye aur kaarwaan bantaa gaya
