We are starting a New Series from today- “Shankar-Jaikishen in the 50s”.
There was a Shankar-Jaikishan mania in the 50s and the 60s. They not only had popularity,versatility and flexibility but also unparallelled success. After Husnlal-Bhagatram, it was Shankar-Jaikishan pair who actually set the trend of composer duos in Hindi films. After Shankar-Jaikishan, no new solo composer, barring perhaps R D Burman,tasted such consistent success. Even R D Burman confessed that in the 1980s, he lost out to competition from duos everywhere.

I am not good at remembering important dates, as I have often mentioned in my posts. Songs of Jaidev from 1967 ‘Hamaare Gham Se Mat Khelo’ are covered as far as I am concerned. The films after that are mostly such that they were not successful at the box-office and hence their songs are mostly unheard and un-available. Thanks to some collectors (with good taste) who are there and the request to them for odd songs are graciously fulfilled.

At last, “Mere DHIRaj ka badla SuDHIR-ji ne de hi diya.”
For quite a long time I was ignorant about this song except its mention in HFGK. Sudhirji, not only searched out the song for me, but also posted it on ‘YouTube’ to save my labour. I am going to thank him further, when as per his promise, he is going to colour-code the lyrics.

Today (14 july 2015) is the 40th death anniversary of Madan Mohan (25 june 1924- 14 july 1975). We are paying tribute to Madan Mohan today by discussing songs composed by him.

Sometimes it so happens that some song is so well ingrained in memory that it appears as if, oh well, everyone must remember this song. And further, it simply cannot be so that this song is not yet on the blog. But then, surprises never cease, right?
This wonderful song is a keen memory from the childhood radio listening days. As I am browsing through my collection of the 1960s, I come across the 1965 film ‘Sindbad, Alibaba, Alladin’. The list of songs rang a few bells I just happened to check the list on the blog. Two songs from this film are absolute foot tappers. One of them is already posted – “Mera Naam Jinny, Soney Ki Ginni”. But this song, is still waiting to be showcased. Well, here it is.
