Missing Films of 1960s – 20
– – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Wow. Wow. And wow. Earlier, I never did pay any attention to the songs of this film. One of those also-ran mythological stories which make up the list of movies of any year in that era.  Haan theek hai, will check it out when there is more time at hand etc. Now, coming to the implementation of this series, and the home work assigned to me by Khyati Ben, I am reviewing the available songs of films that still are waiting in the wings to find their place on our blog. And I come to the next available film in this series – ‘Shiv Parvati’ from 1962. And within that film, I come to this song – and wow.

Missing Films of 1960s – 14
– – – – – – – – – – – – – –

With this post, I return to one of the requests of Arvinder ji that has been pending for some time now. His reminders keep coming to me, and there are more pending requests from him lined up in my inbox.

This song can well be the continuation of the ‘Memory Ticklers’ series. A lilting melody that was often heard on the radio when I used to regularly listen, and then later it seemed to have faded from the memories. Depend on Arvinder ji to recall and remind to dig up such gems to once again be played and listened.

SHANKAR-JAIKISHEN IN THE 50s…Song No. 6
———————————————
The mid 50s was a period when one could see the deep impact of the Nehruvian socialism on the film that were made. Great film makers like Mehboob Khan, B R Chopra and Raj Kapoor tried to support Nehru and Gandhian philosophies through their films. Being great artists, they combine socialism with entertainment in a skillful way. Films like Naya Daur, Mother India, Jagte Raho, Phir subah hogi, Do bigha Zameen,Boot polish,Ab dilli door nahin etc and later on films like Son of India and Naya Kanoon etc clearly indicated Socialism.

After completing all the songs of 1969 film ‘Jiyo Aur Jeene Do’ with the help from my generous friend from the capital of India, I, now, come to 1969 film ‘Sapna’. Hullo to all in Atuldom

Its been three weeks since the gang out happened in Bangalore. I am sure fellow atulites would be waiting for a report on the happenings of that day. But that is not the beginning. It all began with the news that there was going to be a visitor to Bangalore in the week preceding Diwali. That started the chain of mails to coax other Atulites into making a visit. I think this is the right place to mention that this is that period in the year when birds migrate from the colder regions of the world to India which is definitely warmer. One of our gang member joins the birds in this home coming. The first person to jump to say the dates were ideal for the gangout was Sudhirji and YYIIPPEEEE master. Guruji conveyed that he would be unable to make it but Ben Katie was 100% sure she would join us over the net and be our international delegate. There were only 77 mails exchanged to put the whole meet in place. My mind was playing the song “Jahaan Char Yaar Miljaaye”.

Shankar-Jaikishen in the 50s-1

We are starting a New Series from today- “Shankar-Jaikishen in the 50s”.

There was a Shankar-Jaikishan mania in the 50s and the 60s. They not only had popularity, versatility and flexibility but also unparallelled success. After Husnlal-Bhagatram, it was Shankar-Jaikishan pair who actually set the trend of composer duos in Hindi films. After Shankar-Jaikishan, no new solo composer, barring perhaps R D Burman, tasted such consistent success. Even R D Burman confessed that in the 1980s, he lost out to competition from duos everywhere.

I am not good at remembering important dates, as I have often mentioned in my posts. But these are the days of internet and I log on to my email account daily so messages in my inbox remind me about important dates, viz. birthdays of one’s facebook friends. Note to forgetful husbands- make your wife your facebook friend. That way you will not forget her birthday. 🙂

Genius of Jaidev – 32
———————————

Songs of Jaidev from 1967 ‘Hamaare Gham Se Mat Khelo’ are covered as far as I am concerned. The films after that are mostly such that they were not successful at the box-office and hence their songs are mostly unheard and un-available. Thanks to some collectors (with good taste) who are there and the request to them for odd songs are graciously fulfilled.
