Today is 3 march 2019. No, I am not going to discuss a “blog ten year challenge” song today. This article covers a far bigger time span, namely 50 years. It was on this day 50 years ago, viz on 3 march 1969 that the first Rajdhani Express train left Howrah for New Delhi. This train had made its inaugural run from New Delhi on 1 march 1969 and had arrived Howrah on 2 march 1969. Its maiden journey from Howrah to New Delhi was on 3 march 1969, viz 50 years ago.

Today’s song is from film ‘Bhedi Bangla’ (1949). This film was produced by Anand Subramanyam, under the banner of Jagriti films, owned by Master Bhagwan. The story, dialogues and songs were by Ehsaan Rizvi and music was by P Ramakant. This was a name used by C Ramchandra, because he was under contract with Filmistan and could not give music in his own name. It started with Raja Nene’s film Shadi Se Pehle’ in 1947, in which he first used his assistant’s name Paingankar (the joint MD was Karnad). His name was Ramakant Paingankar and was assisting Chitalkar for a long time. Later, for Bhagwan’s films like ‘Bhedi Bangla’, ‘Bhole Bhale’ (1949), ‘Babuji’ (1950), and ‘Bakshish’ (1950) also, Chitalkar used the pseudo name P Ramakant as MD (information from Marathi Chitrapat Sangeetkar Kosh by Madhu Potdar).

Today’s song is from a Mythological film Dev Kanya-46. The film was made by Vishnu Cinetone and was directed by its owner Dhirubhai Desai. Though there were 3 Lyricists, HFGK does not credit any song to any Lyricist. The melodious songs were composed by my favourite-or one of the favourites- MD Shyam Sundar (Gabba).
When I was a child, I was very fond of seeing Religious and Mythological movies. This was not because I was very religious minded, but because I liked the Trick scenes in these films. When I grew a little older, I was appointed the House Escort to a group of old relatives and women of the family whenever they wanted to see a movie- which was reasonably frequent. I would happily lead them as I too could see the film.
