I am aware that “Babul” (1950) had Dilip Kumar and Nargis in lead roles. So I was confused when I watched this song from “Babul”. I had no difficulty identifying Dilip Kumar singing in Talat Mehmood’s voice, but who was the lady. she looked unfamiliar. And she did not look like Nargis.

“Mashaal” (1950) was a musical blockbuster which had some very nice songs. For example, ‘Upar gagan vishaal”, which announced the arrival of Manna Dey as a playback singer, was from this movie.

Look what song I have stumbled upon today ! This movie is called “Jhoola” (1941). It is as old a movie as any, and surprisingly, the quality of audio and video of this song is quite good.

The movie “Dard” (1947) was a movie full of nice songs. The most popular song from this movie was Afsana likh rahi hoon(Dard)(1947),which was sung by Uma Devi (later known as Tuntun).

Wow! What a song this one is. I have been listening to this song for a long time. In my younger days, when I disliked “old” songs, I still subconsciously felt that this song was special. And now that I have no such dislikings, I find that this song is an incredibly melodious song.

I was aware of a movie called “Naatak” (1974), but there was another movie of this name in 1947. “Naatak” (1947) had a very young Suraiyya in lead role. So she obviously sang her own songs in this movie.

There have been several movies called “Aarzoo”. There was one “Aarzoo” in 1966 where Shankar Jaikishan’s hit music had helped the movie become a big box office success. There was another movie of this name that was released in 1951. This movie had songs of different genre and they too had become popular in their times.
