I am quite fond of using phrases like “musical bandwagon”, “online collaboration”, “likeminded music lovers”, “labour of love” etc while discussing our activities in this blog. If we take a pause and reflect on what we are doing in this blog, we will realise that the kind of exchange of ideas, information, knowledge, wisdom, and pooling of resources that continuously takes place is simply mindboggling. It is not a case of I taking the lyrics of a song sent by a contributor and posting it just like that. Considerable background work is often involved in posting articles. In some cases, the background story behind the writing of the article itself makes for interesting reading.

When I look at the names of producer, director, lyricist and music director of “Aabroo” (1968), I realise that this is the same team of “Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya” (1966). Like the 1966 movie, “Aabroo” (1968) too was a musical blockbuster but no great shakes storywise. “Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya” (1966) had a great starcast that was sadly wasted. It turns out that the makers had not lost their touch and here they successfully wasted actors like Ashok Kumar, Rehman, Shashikala, Leela Naidu, Jeevan, Mukri, Sunder, Tun Tun, Lalita Pawar, Nirupa Roy, Niranjan Sharma, Praveen Paul, Ravi Kant, Uma Khosla, Nita etc. This movie also had Deepak Kumar, Vimi in lead roles who were immune to such wastage. 🙂

This is the seventh song in my series ‘Songs from Album Varsha Ritu’. Amongst the male popular singers during that musical period, classical and semi-classical songs were the forte of Manna Dey and Mohammad Rafi. Mukesh and Talat sang very few songs in that category. This Talat non-film song in Miyaa-Malhar is penned and tuned by the HMV staffer Murli Manohar Swaroop. Lots is written about Talat Mahmood in other postings of his songs on this Blog. Not to repeat much, a brief report from Wikipedia should be more than enough.
