Modern day TV watchers are familiar with Ekta Kapoor’s (Jeetendra’s daughter) TV serials. No, I am not talking about their content (which is trashy in any case) but about their titles. All of these titles have to start with “K”. Even where there is no scope for the letter “K” in the beginning of the title, this letter is somehow made to appear in the beginning of the title. If she decides to make a serial on “Atul’s blog”, then it would be called “Kahaani Atul’s blog ki” or ” Kyunki Atul ka bhi ek blog hai”.

I can not recall this movie called “Suraj Aur Chandaa” (1973) which was released during by early teen years. But when I stumbled upon the songs of this movie recently, I realised that I had listened to these songs those days. This song was among the most popular songs of 1970s, especially among pre teens like me. But I had no inkling which movie this song was from, though I guessed that this song must be from some well known movie.

“Aa gale lag jaa” (1973) was a run of the mill movie, but it caught public imagination because of this particular song. This song had two versions. The grown up version was sung by Kishore Kumar and it was picturised on Shashi Kapoor and Sharmila Tagore as a “nature song” -as it was picturised on hills. The other version of the song was a party song and it had a kid singing in addition to Kishore Kumar. Kishore Kumar once again sings for Shashi Kapoor whereas the kid Sushma Shreshtha sang for Master Tito.

There are several songs that play at the very beginning of the movie as the credits begin rolling in on screen. I have not yet had a category for them, but I think I should call such songs as movie opening songs. They open the movie like how opening batsmen open an innings in a cricket match.
