Today (11 August 2022) is Rakshabandhan. This is the 15th Rakshabandhan for this blog. The first Rakshabandhan for the blog fell on 16 August 2008. That day saw the iconic Rakshabandhan song namely Bhaiyya mere raakhi ke bandhan ko nibhaana (Chhoti Bahan)(1959) getting covered on the blog.

2022 is marching and we are into March.
There are many actresses who have graced the silver screen eversince the moving images have held the fantasy of audiences. Some of these ladies began their on-screen life as ‘heroines’, a term used to denote the main female protagonist or the romantic interest of the main male in the story that the movie is depicting. That means the actress will be playing Seetha to a Ram, Parvati to her Mahadev, Radha to her Kanhaiya etc. if the movie was a mythological. If the movie was historical then a Rani Padmini, Rani Lakshmibai etc would be the main protagonist and the lady playing these characters would be called the heroine of the movie. The other ladies gracing the movie- playing Sakhi (friend), Maa, Didi, Bhabhi or Manthara, Kaikeyi, or a nautch girl- would be called supporting actress. No story (whether in movies or novels or real-life) is complete without supporting characters.

I count the minutes the days the hours. . .
I count the stars. . .
Days, then weeks, then months – on to years and decades. The march of time incessantly continues. Superimposed on this unremitting progression is a calendar that allows us to measure passages of time. The philosophers of yore had no tools other than observation and contemplation, by which they used to measure natural phenomena. And then this measurement and contemplation over long periods of time uncovered patterns of celestial movements which tied into the the design of changing climate on earth. And thus was born the concept of calendar and measures of years. Over a period of time it got refined into a detailed structure that we now see as twelve months and 365 days. Of course with further refinements of leap years and leap centuries to make accurate adjustments to synchronize the this framework with the precise movement of Sun in our skies.
