Even as we have been celebrating the journey of this blog over 3000 days, there has been another journey that has taken place recently.

Avinash Scrapwala, our Nagpur-based Atulite, happened to visit Bengaluru earlier this week for a short trip with his wife. If you’ve read the post , you will notice a mention of his boarding the train at Nagpur at 10:10 hrs and expecting to reach at 06:40 hrs the next morning.

Readers of this blog might now be familiar with a certain pattern of posts on this blog.

While there are posts which focus largely on the song, or the film, or even personal anecdotes, one common pattern is the celebration of anniversaries and milestones, in a post.

The anniversaries are our way of paying tribute to the artiste concerned. Whoever the artiste, whether a composer or lyricist or actor, whatever his level of fame in the industry, we try to remember and honour him on his birth or death anniversary.

Talking about Independence day from the comforts of our home six decades after we received it is one thing. Even daring to talk about independence when the country was under British Rule was considered treason and such daring people were severely dealt with by the British at that time .

This is the story of a ‘self-proprietorship firm’ uniquely named ‘Atul Song A Day’ (hereinafter called the Company) which was set up on July 19, 2008 by Atul Besra. In his venture, he received encouragement from Raja, his Cricforum friend. The mission was to produce at least one song a day. However, due to abundant supply of ‘raw material’ and the demand for the ‘finished product’, the production was increased to more than one song a day within 3 months of its existence.

Hullo to all in atuldom

Recently I saw an ad in the newspapers which made me realise that there is something called the “World Music Day” and that it is held in about 120 countries. It is Fête de la Musique’ or Make Music Day or World Music Day.

Now whenever I come across such World or International things I have started reading about it from the (my) trusted source—Wikipedia. And I will say that most times it gives correct knowledge.

Today’s song for discussion is from a film which is actually…according to some people…”out of Syllabus” for me. The film is Andaz Apna Apna – 1994 and the lovely duet is sung by Vicky Mehta and Behroze Chatterjee.

Today is world earth day. Google says so and has a special logo for it. On this occasion I thought that we can have an all time favourite though it is from a cartoon I am sure all of us enjoyed as little ones. Ok I admit in the 1990s most of us were not kids and our kids were infants. But I can safely say that all of us were fans of this song. It was written by The Gulzar – master of words when it came to songs for children; remember “Lakdi Ki Kaathi, Kaathi Pe Ghoda“? It was sung by Amol Sahdev who was a 10 year old back then. He is a trained singer who is himself now a father of a toddler. Vishal Bharadwaj was the music director.

I grew up in a small town where everybody knew everybody and also knew each other’s ‘kartoots’. I was young enough not to understand some conversations of grownups. On one occasion when I was at a fruit sellers shop, with my father, a prominent person came to buy mangoes. It was beginning of the mango season and they were very dear. The shop keeper asked him “Sir, is it for house no. 1 or for house no. 2?” I looked at my father and he warded off my questioning look and started examining mangoes on the rack.
