I recently found a rail song in a Shammi Kapoor movie called ‘Boyfriend”. And now I find that the “professor” song “main chali main chali” is a rail song as well ! And all these days I was thinking that I had already discovered all the rail songs a few months ago. May be I need to watch more Shammi Kapoor songs.

Going by the lyrics, I have classified this song as a love song, but it appears that the love is unilateral in this song despite this being a duet. The hero, Joy Mukherjee is sincere in expressing his love for the lady, but the lady, Sadhana is just playing along, without feeling the same sentiments.

“Ek Musafir Ek Haseena” was a movie featuring Joy Mukherjee and Sadhana. The music was by O P Nayyar and lyrics were written by Raja Mehdi Ali Khan ( known more for writing lyrics for Madan Mohan). Rafi, as is his wont creates magic with his divine voice in this song.

Considering that it is Shailendra who wrote the lyrics and Shankar Jaikishan who composed the music, it could as well be Mukesh singing for Raj Kapoor, but here it is Kishore Kumar singing for himself in “Rangoli”.

Every household compulsorily had the pictures of national leaders on their drawing room walls. In 1950s and early 1960s, Kishore Kumar, in addition to playback singing, acted as an actor cum singer in movies. He was in fact the lead actor in many such movies, and he made a reasonably popular pair with Vyjyanti Mala those days.
