Remembrance day for Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan:

Since 31st July, I am on an unprecedented spree of anniversary and birthday posts. When I scrolled down the month of August in the “Anniversary dates” page of the blog, I saw that on 16th August there are three birthdays and one death Anniversary. Birthdate is of Hemlata, Saif Ali Khan and Manisha Koirala. Incidentally both Manisha Koirala and Saif share not just the birthdate, but the year too, both born in 1970. So both are turning 50 today.

It is 05th August, so its Kajol’s 46th birthday today. For this once I thought I will look for a outdoorsy song to post. Actually, this last week is turning out to be too much in a straight row, if this gets written and posted on time, 4 posts in a week for me.

Hullo Atuldom

Let us all wish the Baadshah of Bollywood on his 54th birthday.

Wish this was an audio post, then I would have started my post with what we used to hear on the radio Ads in the 70s and 80s. I would have first played a line “aashiq hoon main qaatil bhi hoon” then after the voice over by a Vijay Behl or Ameen Sayani or a Vinod Sharma or it could be Harish Bhimani (I don’t remember the names of all the announcers, sorry) the Radio Ad would have closed with the repeat of the last line of the mukhda of the song – “Baadshah o baadshah, baadshah hey baadshah, baadshah”.

This is the story of a Telugu man born in Hyderabad in an upper middle-class Naidu family. He completes his schooling in a Boarding school in Yercaud. After graduating in Chemical Engineering from Osmania University, he proceeds to USA and completes M.S. in Chemical Engineering. He gets a good job in the USA as an Environment Consultant. So far so good. It is human nature that on every important occasion and event in life, we recall all the people who had ever crossed our lives and made a difference to it. I had a similar experience during the last year. I felt like I wanted to get in touch with people from way back as far as my childhood. I met people who were our neighbours when my daughter was born. I wanted to invite all those who knew her when she was very little and had showered prayers on her when she was not even aware of those blessings. Sometimes we lose touch with people as they move away or we move away. People who were neighbours and our kids used to play together. All of them had touched our lives, affected us in a good or bad way. Mostly in the essential goodness of human nature it was well intentioned.

Hullo to Atuldom

October was slightly busier than normal. I have missed a few birthdays -dates which I always try to write for. I missed Kishore Kumar’s anniversary, and birthdays of Hema Malini, Ashok Kumar, Vinod Khanna, Smita Patil, Shammi Kapoor and a few for which I had made mental notes for – Sunny Deol, Kadar Khan etc. But unless I write oops! type, mental notes remain in the mind. And even mere typing is not enough I should send it as email too, technology has not yet advanced to the level that one person can read another’s thoughts and convert it into a post. Thank god that there is a small amount of privacy left in these modern technological times.

But my post today (26 october 2018) is not to cry about technology. Today is one of those dates in October which I don’t like to miss; at least for the last 3 years.

There have been lots of articles (in this blog and elsewhere) about the festival of Deepaawali. They mostly deal with the history of the festival, stories associated with it, how it is celebrated etc.

Hullo to all the ek din ka gods

My salutation is such because Indian culture (as seen in Indian movies) has taught us that Pati Parmeshwar hota hai. i.e. husbands are to be treated as Gods. I am sure no lady will object to this if the husbands also treat their wives as devis- meaning Goddesses. But we will not get into this discussion on this auspicious day.

The song that is appropriate for today as far as western India is concerned is Kai Po che from “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam”. There will be lot of kites littering the skies starting today. But the main attraction will be in Gujarat where there are kite flying competitions etc. and sounds of “Kai Po Che” resound from all corners.
