Pancham’s Music – Eighties-to-Nineties (1981-1994…) Duets-1
Welcome all to this post, where we are covering a duet song composed by Rahul Dev Burman fondly known as Pancham. I had earlier presented Pancham’s compositions from the eighties. With this post, we will be listening to duet songs composed by Pancham from the eighties and subsequently the nineties.
The song being covered in this article is from the movie ‘Romance-1983’. This movie was another Kumar Gaurav movie that had its title in English, like his film ‘Love Story-1981’ followed by ‘Star-1982’, and ‘Lovers-1983’.
‘Romance-1983’ was produced and directed by Ramanand Sagar for his home productions ‘Sagar Art Enterprises, Bombay’. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 12.10.1983. The cast of this movie included Shammi Kapoor, Kumar Gaurav, Poonam Dhillon, with Saeed Jaffrey, Helena Luke, Sushma Seth, Prema Narayan, and Tom Alter. They were supported by Viju Khote, Jugnu, Manmauji, Samrat Kapoor, Dr. Madan Kataria, Randhawa, Jawahar Bhan, Chandan, Yogee, Jitu Vyas, and Moolchand. This movie introduced Christopher, Lilliput, and Jillian. Raj Babbar, Ranjeeta and Ram Sethi make friendly appearance in this movie.

Hullo Atuldom
“Jawani Zindabad” (1990) was a film that has been listed in the romantic/ drama genre. It was a remake of the 1988 Kannada film ‘ Avale Nanna Hendthi’.
The film had Aamir Khan & Farha Naaz playing the lead with Asrani, Kadar Khan, Javed Jaffrey, Rohini (from South Indian films), Utpal Dutt, Shobha Khote, Rajesh Puri, Upasana Singh, Sushma Seth, Satyen Kappu, Chandrasekhar, Mehmood Jr., Birbal, Shail Chaturvedi, Jagdish Raj, Viju Khote, and many known faces playing supporting characters. Anand Milind were tghe music directors for songs written by Sameer & Verma Malik. Sadhana Sargam, Amit Kumar, Suresh Wadkar, Kavitha Krishnamurthy, Anuradha Paudwal, Udit Narayan, & Mohd Aziz were the playback singers used for the six songs. The film was produced by Jay Mehta & Pranlal Mehta with Arun Bhatt as the director.

Pancham’s Music – Eighties (1981-1990) Part-2 –post-9 (1982)
Today 3rd July 2025 is the seventy-third birthday of Singer Amit Kumar (born on 3rd July 1952). On this occasion we will be listening to a song sung by him and composed by the music director, with whom Amit Kumar sung the highest number of songs i.e. Rahul Dev Burman.
This song is from the movie ‘Teri Qasam-1982’ which was directed by A.C. Trilokchander for ‘Navjeevan Productions, Bombay’. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 25.05.1982. Titu was the producer of this movie. It had Kumar Gaurav, Poonam Dhillon, Girish Karnad, Ranjeeta, Nirupa Roy, Monty, Paintal, Jyoti Bakshi, Neelu Arora, Najma, Rakesh Bedi, Mushtaq Merchant, Kanti, Manmouji, Birbal, S.P. Chaturvedi, Dinkar Chaudhary, Meghdoot, Bhola, Shivraj, Babli, Gauri Verma, Raj Bachchan and others. This movie introduced Shiv Kapoor. ‘Gudiyaa’ (1997) was produced by Mahesh Bhatt and Amit Khanna under the banner of Plus Films and was directed by cinematographer and screenplay writer, Gautam Ghose. The cast included Mithun Chakraborty, the debutant Nandana Sen, Pran, Mohan Agashe, Subhendu Chatterjee, Tiku Talsania, Masood Akhtar etc with special appearances by Avtar Gill, Sunil Mukherjee, Anjaan Shrivastav and Anusha Majumdar. This was Gautam Ghose’s first Hindi feature film which was shot at New Theatres Studio, Kolkata. The outdoor shooting was mainly done in Goa and Mumbai. The film was a ‘disaster’ at the box office front.

Today 29th December 2024 is the eighty-second birth anniversary (29.12.2024-18.07.2012) of Rajesh Khanna(29.12.2024-18.07.2012). On this occasion, we are paying tribute to Rajesh Khanna by presenting a few songs picturised on him.
In this post I am presenting a song from the movie “Sautela Bhaai-1996”. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 04.01.1996. I was staying at Kota (Rajasthan) in those days and since the project I was working there was in winding up stage I think I must have been more occupied with the work related activities, since I do not remember to have watched this movie. Even in the later years I must have lost track of this movie, because it is only recently that I came across this movie’s songs while going through the filmography of music composer R.D. Burman. The music for this movie “Sautela Bhaai-1996” is composed by him.

Today, the 3rd of July is the 72nd birthday of Amit Kumar Ganguly, popularly known as Amit Kumar. Amit Kumar is the son of Kishore Kumar and Ruma Ganguly. Like his father, Amit started singing from an early age and he used to sing at Durga Pooja festivals in Calcutta. At one such function arranged by Bengali actor “Mahanayak” Uttam Kumar, the audience continued requesting encores. While his mother complained that he was singing “filmy” songs, his father decided to bring him to Bombay.

“Mahaan” (1983) was a film that released in my teenage years & released in the summer holidays of 1983. I have seen it then & a number of times after that. It was produced by Satyanarayana & A. Suryanarayana; directed by S. Ramanathan. Anjaan wrote the songs which were tuned by R.D. Burman. Waheeda Rehman, Amitabh Bachchan, Amjad Khan, Zeenat Aman, Parveen Babi, Shakti Kapoor, Ashok Kumar, Mac Mohan, Urmila Bhatt, Mukri, Nandita Thakur, Aruna Irani, Sujit Kumar etc. etc. & Kadar Khan were the actors/ stars in the film. The film was the official remake of the Kannada film ‘Shankar Guru’ (1978).
