From 1970 onwards, we saw many examples of star sons being launched in Hindi movies by their parents with movies tailormade for them. Thus we had Randhir Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor launched by Raj Kapoor, Kumar Gaurav launched by Rajendra Kumar, Sanjay Dutt by Sunil Dutt, Sunny Deol by Dharmendra etc etc.

“Naya Raastaa” (1970) is somehow a movie that is largely unknown. It comes as a great surprise to me because it was an a grade movie starring Jeetendra and Asha Parekh.

Here is a song that wears many hats. this song is a romantic/love song. In addition, this song is also a jeep song, and also an “elephant” song. Yes, the protagonists of this song, viz Jeetendra and Aparna Sen are expressing their love for each other while driving on a jeep and also while riding an elephant.

I think I will not be entirely wrong if I say that one of the reasons songs appeal to all of us is not just because of the song itself. Reading the line of the lyrics “naazuk naazuk badan moraa” did not ring any bells for me, but when I listened to the song, then it rang began to ring quite loudly. I had listened to this song during my younger days, some four decades ago. And I was not aware of any details of this song. In fact I was nnot even aware of the lyrics of the song. I only had vague recollections of the catchy tune of this song.
