The blog ten year challenge series is in progress in the blog since 2019. The current blog ten year challenge (2011-2021) has not yet picked up steam because very few songs were discussed during the initial days of 2010. That year even had a few DOT days during the first few days of the year.

This day ten year ago (viz 20 january 2010) saw just one song getting discussed, and that one song was from “Anjaan”(1956). This movie cannot be taken up for Blog Ten year challenge today because the movie has already been YIPPEED.

15 August 1975 saw the release of a movie that went on to become an all time surprise hit. No, I am not talking about “Sholay”(1975) which was released on that date. “Sholay”(1975) was a big budget multistarrer movie and it was expected to do well at the box office, at least by the makers of the movie, if not the trade pundits.

Another movie was released on 15 august 1975. It was a low key release in a few movie halls. This movie was expected to do a modest business and was expected to last just one or two weeks in movie halls before being replaced by other movies.

But surprisingly, this movie, which had no big stars, and which was a religious movie (that was considered infra dig by city bred movie goers) began to draw crowds that was comparable to the crowd thronging to watch “Sholay”(1975).

We in this blog remember the personalities of HFM during their anniversaries. But in case of Ashok Kumar’s birth anniversary, we are constrained to defer it to next day because this day unfortunately turned out to be the death anniversary of Kishore Kumar, his younger brother.

Now a days we are regularly discussing songs under the “Blog Ten Year Challenge”. Every day, at least one movie is found to be eligible for this challenge.

Today (19 august 2020) is an exception. No movie is eligible today for the reason that no posts appeared on this day 10 year ago. That way, 2010 had lots of DOT days – 61 to be exact. 19 august 2010 was the 45th DOT day (out of 61) of 2010.

By contrast, 2020 thankfully has had no DOT days. And I hope that we will be able to maintain this record for 2020.

Every 23rd January we pay our tributes to the great visionary, a courageous and brave leader of our freedom struggle Netaji Subhashchandra Bose.

All of us are aware of his biographical details and details about his fight for the freedom of people of India and how he led his own fight in the way he thought was the best way to deal with the ‘British Empire’ then.

In one of my earlier posts on the blog here we have also discussed about the various movies based on the life of Netaji Subhashchandra Bose.

Today’s song is from the film Amrapali-1945. The film was made by Murlitone. This historical film was directed by Nandlal Jaswantlal. The music was composed by Saraswati devi, who had left Bombay Talkies, after the exit of Devika Rani. The 11 songs of the film were written by Miss Kamal, B.A.. Most readers who are knowledgeable about the vintage films of the 40’s know that Miss Kamal, B.A. was a pseudonym of Kavi Pradeep. At that time, he was under contract with Bombay Talkies and could not use his real name . Under this Pen name, he wrote lyrics for four films, namely Kadambari-44, Amrapali-45, Sati Toral-47 and Veerangana-47. Incidentally, all these films were directed by Nandlal Jaswantlal.
